2007-05-13 Bulletin

We are God's Children—gathered by Him in love—to bring glory to the Triune God, to pray, to seek the lost, to nurture the young in the Lord, to care for the hurting, and to encourage one another. We do this in obedience to His Word.

ASCENSION DAY is this Thursday May 17. We will have our special celebration service combined with Woodynook CRC. The service will be here at Bethel. Our Praise Team will lead the singing and Pastor Neil DeKoning will lead the rest of the service as we celebrate the triumphant ascension of our Lord Jesus.

Next Sunday

May 20 there is another Classis wide exchange. We will have Pastor Henry Steenbergen lead our worship here at Bethel. Pastor Mike is in Red Deer New Life. In the evening we look at another question of faith, “Why isn’t God answering my prayers? We will read from Psalms 10 and 13. Pastor Mike will lead the service.

Prayer for the Persecuted Church

Turkey has a population of 70 million people of which seemingly only 3000 to 7000 are Christian believers who are courageously living in a Muslim country. On April 18, Easter Sunday, three Christians of the town of Malatya went to the location of their church- and printing office to join in a Bible study and prayer meeting with apparently 10 others. Missionary Tilman Geske 46 , pastor Necati Ayden, 35, both married and having children, and Ugur Yuksel were among them.. When the meeting began, 10 young Muslims youth assaulted the group of believers , tortured them at length and murdered the three just mentioned. Ugur stayed alive for some time yet, but I think that surely is not experienced as a blessing. The other 10 believers fled into hiding. Apparently the arrival of police sent 5 attackers running for cover while they caught the other five. It was reported that Mrs, Tilman shared in a television interview her forgiveness and did not want revenge and has touched several listeners to the heart.

PRAY that the wives of these Christian brothers may continue to show the love and forgiveness of God especially to the young people in Turkey who consider it a privilege to kill non Muslim believers, and that the Holy Sprit may invade their hearts . PRAY that the persecution of Jesus followers may instead turn non Christians into a joining in the joy of His salvation. PRAY for courage of our brothers and sisters to stand up for the Lord and perseverance in their faith in our Savior and Lord and never give up hope .

Wolf Creek Community Church

Spring has arrived bringing the promises of new life and growth. Here at Wolf Creek Community Church in Lacombe, Alberta, it also brings the anticipation of moving into a new facility. On July 1 we take possession of our new building and look forward into moving in shortly after. Please continue to pray for us as many decisions need to be made. We thank you for your ongoing support both in prayer and financial support. Thank you from Wolf Creek Community Church

PreSchool Sunday School.

May 27 will be the last Sunday for those children who will be in Grade 1 in the fall. We are looking for volunteer teachers and helpers so that we can run our summer program for the younger children. A sign up sheet is located on the back foyer table, so please volunteer and sign up to help us out for a week. Thanks.

Youth Praise Team

Youth Praise Team Practice is tomorrow, Monday, May 14th at 7:30 pm at the church. The next practice will be Monday, May 28th and then before the service on June 3rd.

Young Peoples

Young Peoples season wrap-up. Young Peoples will meet on tonight after the service in the social hall for a short wrap up meeting. Please come with your ideas for summer activities. Be prepared to discuss what you would like to see happen for YP's next year. Hope to see you all there.

Our last two YC tickets have been sold and we now have 21 young people and 6 leaders heading out for this exciting weekend. This is double our last year’s numbers and we praise God for that. The cost for Hotel and Bus comes out to $55.00 per person. Please get those funds to Wayne Bouwman as soon as possible. As well there are still a few who have not paid their registration fees. Please pay this as well.

From the Cuba Connection Committee of Classis Alberta North

We have been provided an opportunity to provide materials that are needed by our brothers and sisters of the IGLESIA CRISTIANA REFORMADA EN CUBA. We have an offer to have the material transported to the Island free of charge!

The Cuban Church would like the following:

Office andschool supplies,(pencils, paper, markers....) Medical - over the counter medicines (e.g.-aspirins, ibuprofen) canes, crutches, etc., Clothing, shoes, bedsheets, Personal-towels, soap, tooth brushes, shampoo, Non perishable food, laundry soap

Now we are also hoping to send good, used adult bicycles! These would be so useful as very few Cubans own cars. Questions? Call Rod at 782-2643

A special box will be in the foyer on May 13 and 20. Thank you for your generosity!

At sometime toward the end of May we will need some kind people with trucks or enclosed trailers to bring this all to Edmonton.

At the Bibles For Missions thrift Store we have been packing many boxes of clothes, bedding, shoes etc. for Cuba because some people have given us donations to use for that purpose. If you would like to give in that way, it would save you shopping for items, it would help us cut down on our backlog at the store, it would pay for more Bibles for the Ukraine –and it would help people in Cuba! A win-win situation! Donations can be given to either board member Simon Leenstra or Dave Reitsma. (If you are giving a cheque make it out to Bibles for Missions Thrift Store.)
