2007-07-01 Bulletin

We are God's Children—gathered by Him in love—to bring glory to the Triune God, to pray, to seek the lost, to nurture the young in the Lord, to care for the hurting, and to encourage one another.  We do this in obedience to His Word.

Church Family

Mr. and Mrs. Biel are still not well but are coping. We entrust them to God’s gracious care and pray for a measure of health and strength.

Continue to remember our shut-ins: Ann Swier, Margaret Bos, Theresa Salomons, Tena Ellen and Jackie Hartenhof.

Our missionaries around the world continue to covet our prayers. Some of them are in very dangerous places. As they share the love of God with the people around them, may they know that the Lord has promised to go before them – providing for their every need.

Please note: This week you will find a letter in your mailbox regarding my upcoming mission trip to East Asia. I will be sharing a bit more next week (8th) during the morning service.

Prayer for the Persecuted Church

On the evening of June 17, approximately forty Muslim men armed with guns, axes and wooden sticks attacked several believers while they were preparing for an evangelistic meeting. Seven Christians were injured and the church was desecrated. Local Christians said that the attack was sparked by their refusal to cancel the meeting. The night before the attack, armed Muslims had stormed the home one of the meeting's organizers, and assaulted his two young children and demanded he cancel the event. Christians injured in the June 17 attack were forced to leave the hospital after only a few hours of treatment and doctors under-reported their wounds due to pressure from the militants. Police initially refused to file a complaint against the attackers and did so only after lobbying efforts from local Christians. Several Christians have fled the area in fear of further attacks. Pray that the victims of this attack will display the love of Christ to their Muslim neighbours and trust God to avenge them as He sees fit (Romans 12:17-21). Pray that Christians in Pakistan will not give in to fear but rest in the fact that the Good Shepherd walks with them through their trials.

To the Jr. and Sr. young people and leaders

Who attended the 3rd annual paintball and barbecue at the van Gyssel's home. Thank you for making it a fantastic time. I know that a good time was had by all and that you are all looking forward to next year! This event is always fun to plan and participate in but this year we added mini golf for those who could not go paintballing. Congratulations to all for those incredible scores.

For the month of July nothing is tentatively scheduled because of holidays for my family. So look forward in August for the 3rd annual Calaway Park trip that will take place during the week of the 20th - 24th. The confirmed date will be posted later after a bus has been booked.

To all have a great summer!!!! Dana van Gyssel

Timothy Trek

In support of the Wolf Creek Youth For Christ (YFC). They are hosting this fun event. You can run or walk 10k, 5k, or 2.5k. The race starts at 12:00 noon on Sunday July 15 after the combined morning worship service in Michener Park. Last year 152 trekkers raised $20,000. Pledge forms are on the table in the foyer or talk to Pastor Mike.

As I’m sure you are aware, we are quickly approaching Timothy Trek ’07. If you have not registered yet, and plan to do so, head to http://www.timothytrek.com/ and register today. For those of you who don’t have the desire to lace up your runners, there are still plenty of ways to get involved. We are currently looking for a crew of people to be course marshal’s/ clean up crew. This job involves one short meeting the week prior to the trek as well as 3-4 hours on race day. If you would be interested in cheering on participants while making sure they run the right course, please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks!

Prepare to Participate in the Celebration of Denomination’s 150th Anniversary:

On Sunday, September 30th, the Central Alberta Churches will join together in new Life (Red Deer) to celebrate what God has, is and will do among us. You can be part of worship celebrating God’s faithfulness and blessing, listen to Dr. Plantinga – President of Calvin Seminary, eat lunch together (provided by CACHS catering) and join together for a fun time with Jason and Troy (happythedog.com) who are often part of Youth Unlimited events. Put it on your calendar. We are looking forward to your presence.

Curious about the Hoogland's work in Bolivia?

Jake and Marg will present an overview of their work -- the challenges, the adventures, and the highlights -- on Monday, July 2 at 8 pm. at the WoodyNook Church. They welcome all of you to share in their work with the Quechua people living in the lowlands of Bolivia.

From the Secretary

Please Note: The resource room has been rearranged a bit with some more shelving added. The white shelves on the east wall are meant for the use of the Education Ministry Leadership Team. The Corner shelves on the north wall are for the Youth Ministry Team and the next set are for Coffee Break and others who need shelving space. The Worship Ministry Leadership Team has their shelving space in the secretary’s office. If everyone does their part in keeping the room neat and cleans up loose papers and such, we should have a very workable area. If there are any questions or concerns, please come and talk to Anita Geldof. Thanks.

A Note from the General Administration Leadership Ministry Team

As some of you may have noticed, air conditioning has been installed for the sanctuary. If you notice a draft where you are sitting, you may have to move a few seats forward or to the side if you wish to be out of the draft. We hope that the air conditioning will make the sanctuary more comfortable for all as we worship together throughout the warm summer months.
