2007-08-19 Bulletin

We are God's Children—gathered by Him in love—to bring glory to the Triune God, to pray, to seek the lost, to nurture the young in the Lord, to care for the hurting, and to encourage one another. We do this in obedience to His Word.

Church Family

Ria Jager continues to recover here in the Lacombe Hospital. It will take some time but there is improvement and we pray for God’s continued blessing of peace and healing. This weeks flowers will be brought to Ria to bring some color and cheer to her room. May they be a reminder that the congregation is remembering her and John before God’s throne of grace.

Ruth Sluys is still waiting for word on the date of surgery. She is very weak and is resting very quietly at home. Continue to pray for patience and strength for both Ruth and Pastor Peter.

Tena Ellen suffered a stroke two weeks ago. Speaking has become very difficult for her. Here too, we pray for patience and for God’s good healing and strength.

Remember our shut-ins as well: Ann Swier, Margaret Bos, Theresa Salomons, and Jackie Hartenhof.

Wedding Announcement

Rients and Jannie Palsma wish to invite the congregation to the wedding ceremony of their daughter Christa Palsma and David Benavides at 1:00 pm on Thursday August 23rd here in the Bethel CRC.

Prayer for the Persecuted Church

India

On August 14, Uma Jasmine (38) was beaten by the next-door neighbours of a local family that she had been witnessing to for the past few months in Bangalore. The neighbours saw that the wife of this family had started to pray and read the Bible and were angry at Jasmine for sharing her faith. When Jasmine and her seventeen year old daughter went to visit the wife, the neighbours severely beat them. Jasmine is currently suffering from breast cancer and her health has worsened as a result of her injuries. Thank the Lord for Uma's boldness in proclaiming His Word in an environment of opposition. Pray that her faithfulness will be a light that draws her persecutors to Christ (Matthew 5:14-16). Ask God to give healing to her and to her daughter.

Bethel Youth

The 3rd annual Calaway Park trip is booked and ready to go!!!! Thursday August 23, 2007 at 8am our bus will be pulling out of the Bethel parking lot. The cost for the trip will be set at $10 and the price for admission into the park with a 50% off coupon will be $13.50 plus G.S.T. Coupons can be found in the student union paks or the mail hand outs. If you need one, I’ll have them on hand that day. Last year we filled the bus plus one extra driver to accommodate the extra students. If this happens again I will need extra drivers, and I will need extra supervision on the grounds. Normal ratio would be one adult to ten students. After a fun filled day our bus will arrive home again at approximately 6 - 6:30pm. This activity is open to all students going into grade 7 to grade 12. Please feel free to invite your friends for a fun day as well. If you need more information or you would like to confirm your seat on the bus give Dana a call at 357-1770/783-2367 or email her at john.dana@xplornet.com. Remember you must book your seat in advance and if we cannot fill the bus the price of the trip will go up.

Youth Ministry Leadership team

meets this Tuesday August 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the church to plan the Youth retreat that is scheduled for September 14-16. All those in grades 7-12 should plan on coming out to this exciting weekend. More details to follow.

Coffee Break:

Coffee Break starts in September and ends in April. We are looking for a few more leaders. We lead in pairs and take turns each week or month so that way, we have more freedom with our schedules. You may find your own partner or pair up with one of our "experienced" leaders. We are also looking for some helpers for Story Hour and Little Lambs. Please talk to Debby van Iperen.

Time to Start Planning for the Fall Season

Thursday, August 30th is the date that has been set as the evening for all leadership teams and ministries to send a delegate or two to a meeting where we get together to plan the calendar year for Bethel. We did this last year and found it very helpful to sit down together and talk about our plans and work together through the calendar year. So get your calendars out, plan your year and bring your plans to the meeting.

PRAYER REQUEST:

Masami “happened” to listen to The Back to God Hour Japanese program Let’s Open the Bible. It changed her life, she told us. “I had several chances to go to church but I always hesitated to believe in God. I thank God for your program. I want to know more about Christianity and be baptized.” Pray that Masami and millions of Japanese people will find the answers to life’s questions in God’s Word.

A WORLD TO CARE FOR:

One news source claims that we have used one-third of the earth’s resources in the last thirty years. Are we overusing our earthly resources? Or are ecological problems the result of divine judgment? Who or what holds the answers to our ecological crisis? And what does the Bible say about the world in which we live? Find out on the Aug. 26 Back to God Hour. Go to www.BacktoGod.net for local stations and times.

TOUR THE HOLY LAND OF ISRAEL:

for ages 17 and up. Mar. 3–14, 2008. Experience a refreshing renewal of your faith, as you tour the biblical lands with teaching host Pastor Peter Tuininga and Sindbad Tours of Israel. See many of the biblical places (Jerusalem, Galilee, Caesarea) while receiving spiritual and historical insights. For complete information, cost and registration call or write: Peter Tuininga, 71 Mohawk Cres. Leduc, AB, T9E 4G4, (780 980-1133) or e-mail: ptpastor@telus.net.
