2007-12-16 Bulletin

For to us a child is born, to us a child is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6

Free a Family

Right now the Sunday School is supporting Free a Family, which is helping families in Asia, Africa and Latin America overcome poverty, hunger, malnutrition, and illiteracy while experiencing the love of God. Tonight's offering will support this cause as we teach our children about charitable giving as they assist needy families in acquiring the skills they need to obtain food, health, and income as they come to know Jesus.

Third Sunday of Advent: Love.

At home, read Genesis 33:1-17, the story of Jacob’s return to Esau and the gracious spirit in which Esau receives him. Share a time when the love of Christ was shown to you through the ministry of others.

Our Church Family

This week please remember Scott, Irene & Robert Fraser in your prayers.

Do remember our seniors in prayer during the difficult cold winter months.

Remember our shut-ins: Tena Ellen, Ann Swier, Margaret Bos, Theresa Salomons, and Jackie Hartenhof.

Our missionaries around the world continue to covet our prayers.

Just a little reminder to have your children who are participating in the Children’s Christmas service this evening, at church by 6:45 p.m.

We will need a few minutes to get them into their costumes. The children will be sitting up at the front for the service so you do not need to save a spot for them. Also, if you still have sandals that fit, bring them along tonight.

Christmas Baking

Over the next few weeks we will be having some special services in our church. We would love to serve some homemade goodies following the Candlelight service on December 23rd and on Christmas day. If you are starting your Christmas baking, please keep the church in mind and perhaps bake an extra dozen or two for these times of fellowship. The baking can be left in the fridge in the kitchen – please label it – thank you!

Urgent Need

The Grades 3 - 6 Sunday School program is still in need of one Sunday School teacher for the Grade 3-4 class that is starting in January. Do you have 13 hours to spare in your spring schedule? Is spending time giving back to your church something you're interested in? Do you like to work with children? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then maybe this is the opportunity for you. It is only a 13 week program, with up to 45 minutes allowed for class time each week, as well as your prep time at home. All materials are included as well as lesson plans. So, how about it? Please call Laura Duckett at 784-3270 as soon as possible if this is something you are interested. Thank- you!!

Prayer for the Persecuted Church

Pastor Dmitry Sjestakov was arrested on January 21, 2007 by secret police; he was charged with promoting hate on national, racial and religious grounds. Since March, when he was sentenced to four years, he has been in a labour camp 560 km from where his wife Marina and their three daughters live. On December 23rd there will be elections in Oezbekistan. Just before the last election in 2000, President Karimov, who is expected to be re-elected, gave amnesty to many prisoners. Pray that President Kaminow will do this again and that Dmitri Sjestakov will be among those released and that he will be able to go back to his family and his ministry in Andidjan.

The fall drive for Central Alberta Christian High School is now officially over.
