2007-12-23 Bulletin

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6

Tuesday is Christmas Day

We come together to celebrate our joy at 10:30 a.m. for a time of worship and praise. Our theme is “Transformed from Guilt to Wonder”. For the children’s message we need some Christmas bells. If you have a bell that you could bring, please place them on the front bench before the service. Please remember to pick them up again following the service. Thank you for your help!

December 30th

There will be no evening service on December 30th as we get together the following evening, Monday, December 31stat 7 p.m. to end the year with the Lord. We will be meeting in the fellowship hall once again and there will be opportunity to share highlights from the past year, so be ready to give God the glory for his goodness and grace to you in the year 2007. Tuesday, January 1st at 10:30 a.m. will be our New Year’s Day service as we begin the new year with our Lord.

A word of thanks

To all the children who did such a good job performing the Christmas story for us last Sunday night. It was awesome! Thanks for all your hard work memorizing your lines so well. Also a big thank you to Harriet and all her helpers in putting the program together.

Grades 3-6 Sunday school children

We would love to have you sing “One Small Child” for the Christmas Day service. This was one of your songs from last Sunday evening’s service. If you will be here on Christmas Day, please plan on singing this song with Amberly and Kayleen. Thank you!

Our Church Family

This week please remember Ernie & Willie Stebner in your prayers.

Our condolences go out to the family of Mrs. Winnie (Ralph) Prins who died last week Sunday. We especially think of her sisters, Ann (Simon) Swier, Dorothy (Gerrit) Meindersma and Helen Kits as well as Jake and Agnes Prins with the passing of their sister-in-law. In the assurance of faith we give thanks for her life and are comforted in the hope of eternal life.

We are thankful Mr. Klaas Boskers could return home from the hospital this week. We thank God for his healing grace and trust things will continue to go well.

Do remember our seniors in prayer during the difficult cold winter months.

Remember our shut-ins: Tena Ellen, Ann Swier, Margaret Bos, Theresa Salomons, and Jackie Hartenhof.

Remember our missionaries around the world as they spend Christmas far from their families.

Prayer for the Persecuted Church

On December 11th , 2007 in Bauchi State, ten people were killed and several Christians were seriously injured while Muslims burned homes and churches on a brutal rampage. The violence occurred after unidentified people pulled out two blocks from the foundation of the mosque under construction at a School in Kagadama shortly after construction began on the building on December 2. The Muslim students believed that Christians had done the damage and threatened to attack local believers. Although the school principal and staff thought that they had diffused the tension, nine days later Muslim students stormed out of a classroom and converged at the mosque site chanting "Allahu Akbar." They then began to attack Christians with knives and daggers. The violence eventually escalated into a town-wide riot. Three churches were set ablaze and sustained damage. At least a dozen Christian homes were destroyed in the attack. At last report, only one of those killed has been identified. The identities of the other nine have been kept secret by the government and their bodies were given a swift burial in a common grave. Pray that the Lord will fill Christians with His peace and strength as they recover from this brutal attack. Ask God to comfort those who have lost loved ones. Pray that Christ will be exalted through this tragedy and that people in this area will continue to be drawn to Him (Phil. 1:20).

Shalom Counseling Centre of Alberta is looking for new board members.

As a church we support their work of Christian counseling and appreciate the good work they do. If you are interested in serving as a board member or to learn more about this opportunity to serve, call Ralph Wold at 342-0339.
