Bethel CRC Mission Statement: We are God’s Children – gathered by Him in love – to bring glory to the Triune God, to pray, to seek the lost, to nurture the young in the Lord, to care for the hurting, and to encourage on another. We do this in obedience to His Word.

Our Church Family

This week please remember Gerrit & Dorothy Meindersma in your prayers.

Ruth Sluys is in our local hospital in room 77, section B and she is happy to receive visitors. She will enter the R.A. hospital in Edmonton on January 19th and on January 22nd Ruth will undergo a critical "heart procedure" attempting to close two holes in her heart which have physically made her remain in bed for quite some time. Pray that the Lord may heal her heart and that her family will accept his will, for the way He points out is His way.

Paul Prins had successful treatment of two blockages of the heart arteries this past week in Edmonton.

He was able to return home on Wednesday and is well on the way to recovery. We give thanks to God for his healing grace.

Keep Carol De Waal, Marja Vander Vlis, and Hilda Zuidhof in your prayers as they continue to recover from broken bones and surgery.

Do remember our seniors in prayer during the difficult cold winter months as well as our shut ins: Tena Ellen, Ann Swier, Margaret Bos, Theresa Salomons, and Jackie Hartenhof.

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Thank you to everyone for your concern, cards, and prayers with my surgery and recovery. I continue to slowly recover and thank God for that. Thank you – Marja Vander Vlis.

Prayer for the Persecuted Church

Four churches and three convents in Baghdad, Mosul and Nineveh were damaged in bombings on January 6th, a day on which many Iraqi Christians celebrate their Christmas Eve. The blasts occurred within five minutes of each other at approximately 11 a.m. and involved mortar shells, explosive devices and car bombs. At least six people were injured, one of them seriously.
Pray for Iraqi Christians as they deal with the effects of this attack and for healing for those injured. Ask God to enable Iraqi Christians to be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer as they suffer for Him (Romans 12:12).

Employment opportunities

please check the bulletin board for several employment opportunities with the Christian Labour Association of Canada and Citizens for Public Justice.

The King’s University College presents “THOUGHT FOR FOOD”

an interdisciplinary conference that explores critical challenges to global and local food security. Join us as theologians, scientists, economists and social activists struggle to understand how we can bring “Micah to the Market” and have justice for dinner. Events begin 9 a.m. on January 16th and 17th. No admission, all are welcome. For more information visit our website at www.kingsu.ca or contact roy.berkenbosch@kingsu.ca

CRC in Kenya:

The CRC has called into action a special event response team to monitor the situation in Kenya, where civil disturbances broke out on December 31st upon claims that the presidential election of President Mwai Kibaki was rigged. Currently five CRWRC staff, one Partners Worldwide staff, and two CRWM missionaries are confined to their homes. A relief response is in development, and will begin with non-food items like temporary shelter, cooking pots, and blankets. To donate to this relief response, please mark your donations "Kenya Conflict" and mail to CRWRC, 3475 Mainway, PO Box 5070, STN LCD 1, Burlington, ON, L7R 3Y8. Donate by phone at 1-800-730-3490 or online at www.crwrc.org.

Clean water, improved health, and hope for a Honduran village. A possible life-changing experience for the team participants. That’s what awaits the members of the 14th Honduras Water Service and Learning Project. A partnership of NADC, CRWRC, and the King’s University College the project takes place during 3 ½ weeks of May. Team building and orientation t is planned for several evenings in March. If you are interested in joining this great short-term mission experience, please call Henry @ 780-423-0456 for more information and an application form, or send your request to nadmc@telus.net. The deadline for applications is January 16, 2008. Space is limited.

Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity and love to cuddle babies and play with toddlers? The Keys to Young Parenting program at the Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre is seeking volunteer childcare providers once per week on Wednesdays afternoons for 15 weeks, beginning March 5th. We are also looking for transportation providers to bring parents to and from the program. This free program provides parenting and life skills to young parents in a supportive Christian environment. We are also now taking pre-registrations for parents up to 25 years of age who are interested in taking the program. Please call Kathy Schultz or Charlene Schatz at 343-1611.

Youth Opportunity in Cuba:

The Cuba Connection Committee has received an invitation from the Iglesia Cristiana Reformada en Cuba to the youth of Classis Northern Alberta to participate in a summer youth camp in Cuba. The dates are August 4 -8, 2008. If you are between 18 and 25 years old, have an appetite for personal growth and adventure, and are interested in exploring this opportunity, please contact Wilf at: wv@telusplanet.net or at: 403-343-3820 by no later than FEBRUARY 15, 2008.

Please pray for children in India.

Children’s Bible Clubs are 2-week programs that introduce children to their Creator and transform the lives and hearts of little ones as they struggle against illiteracy, disease, abusive child labour and spiritual bondage. Historically, we know that an average of 40% of children who attend will become followers of Jesus! To help provide the Bibles and resources for these children hungry for God’s Word call The Bible League of Canada at 1-800-363-9673 or go to www.bibleleague.ca.
