2008-03-09 Bulletin

We are God's Children - gathered by Him in love - to bring glory to the Triune God, to pray, to seek the lost, to nurture the young in the Lord, to care for the hurting, and to encourage one another. We do this in obedience to His Word.

Next Sunday, March 16th

We celebrate Palm Sunday and Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem as found in Mark 11:1-11. In the evening we will have our denominational annual prayer service. Pastor Mike will lead the services.

Good Friday

Our Good Friday service will be held on March 21st at 10:30 a.m. as we remember the death of our Lord Jesus. On Easter Sunday, March 23rd at 10:30 a.m. we will celebrate the resurrection of our Lord.

Our Church Family

This week we will keep Harry & Dorothy Wildeboer in our prayers.

Nathaniel Wildeboer is almost through his first session of chemotherapy treatments. We pray for God’s blessing on him through this and continued strength for Steve and Angela and the family as Nathaniel may soon be discharged but the family will have to stay in the Edmonton area to be close to medical care there.

Hans Spelt goes in for prostate surgery this Tuesday in Edmonton. We trust in God that the procedure will be successful.

Teus VanderVlis remains in hospital in Red Deer awaiting heart surgery which is now booked for this coming Tuesday in Edmonton. We pray for God’s blessing and healing as Teus has this procedure.

Mrs. Margaret Bos remains in the Lacombe hospital. She is experiencing the advanced stages of the cancer and we entrust her to God’s gracious care, especially today as she celebrates her 82nd birthday.

We rejoice in God’s goodness with Andrew & Carina Tenbrinke and the family with the birth of a healthy baby girl, Jayde Lynn on February 29, 2008. Since she was several weeks early and weighed only 4 lbs. 8 oz. when she was born, the medical staff in Edmonton is keeping an eye on her but we trust she will be moved to the Red Deer hospital soon.

Congratulations to Marlene Chykerda and Dave Moniuk who were joined in marriage yesterday here in our church. May God richly bless you and grant you many years of joy together.

Also congratulations to Ralph and Pauline Bos with the marriage of their son Kevin to Taryn. We wish them God’s blessing in their life together.

Do remember our seniors in prayer during the difficult cold winter months as well as our shut ins: Tena Ellen, Ann Swier, Margaret Bos, Theresa Salomons, and Jackie Hartenhof.

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Classis Alberta North Report

The delegates met in regular session Tuesday and Wednesday in Edmonton at the King’s University College. Bethel delegates were Elder John Van Gyssel and Pastor Mike. There is a page on the table in the foyer highlighting many of the things discussed at Classis. One item that was approved was the recognition of need in our Classis for more people to help in leading in worship and preaching. Classis then scheduled an interview for our own church member, Elder Wayne Bouwman to be examined at the October Classis meeting for his License to Exhort in the Classis and so be able to help in other churches.

Worship involvement

If any church members would like to be involved with our worship services, there are quite a few opportunities for you. You could be a Bible reader, song leader, PowerPoint operator, children's message leader, or musician. For more information please give Cindy Prins a call at 782-5268 today.

Red Deer Soup Kitchen

We have an opportunity to serve our community by way of helping out at the new soup kitchen in Red Deer. Jeanne Ebens has already been volunteering for some time now. We are in need of youth and adult volunteers. It will require a time commitment of about 2.5 hours on Thursdays (4:00- 6:30). Three youth and one adult per week is preferred. We are putting together a list of people willing to serve in this capacity. Remember the more people that step up to this challenge, the less frequent you will need to go. This is also a great ministry to do with the entire family. If you are interested please call Wayne Bouwman (Youth) or Jeanne Ebens (Adults or Families).

Prayer for the Persecuted Church

Ethiopia

On February 10th, Jemmal Abdo (30) and his wife, both Muslim converts to Christianity, were beaten and chased from a mosque where they both worked in the capital city of Addis Ababa. Two months ago, Jemmal and his wife both came to faith in Christ. Soon after their conversion, one of Jemmal's friends saw him talking with Christians and told the imam of the mosque. On February 10th, Jemmal and his wife were interrogated in the mosque during a meeting called by Muslim leaders in an attempt to persuade the couple to recant their faith. The couple refused to do so, even after the leaders offered them higher positions and salaries if they denied Christ. The couple was then beaten and dragged out of the mosque. Jemmal and his wife were able to flee to a new location for safety. Pray for the recovery of Jemmal and his wife, who were injured in the attack and ask God to strengthen them by His grace as they stand in their new found faith in Christ (Philippians 1:29).
