2008 03 16 Bulletin

We are God's Children - gathered by Him in love - to bring glory to the Triune God, to pray, to seek the lost, to nurture the young in the Lord, to care for the hurting, and to encourage one another. We do this in obedience to His Word.

Good Friday

Our Good Friday service will be held on March 21st at 10:30 a.m. as we remember the death of our Lord Jesus.

Next Sunday, March 23rd is Easter Sunday.

We celebrate Jesus’ victory over sin and death. Pastor Mike will lead the service. In the evening we will have a combined Lacombe ministerial Easter service at Woodynook Church at 7:00 p.m. The Parkland Male Chorus will be taking part in the service.

There will be NO Sunday School for grades 3-6 on March 23rd and 30th. Classes resume on April 6th with the last class on April 13th.

Our Church Family

This week please keep Hans and Grace Spelt in your prayers.

Our condolences go out to Brian Jackson, whose Uncle Ron passed away on Thursday in

New Bruinswick. We pray for God's comfort for Brian and the family in this time of sadness.

The operation for Hans Spelt went very well and he was able to return home this weekend.

We are very thankful for God's healing grace in his life.

We continue to remember Nathaniel Wildeboer and his family.

Teus VanderVlis had his surgery in Edmonton and we understand that it went well. We thank God for his grace and mercy and trust in his care for Teus and Marja during the weeks of recovery.

Simon and Ann Swier would like to thank the congregation for cards and well wishes with the celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary. We are also thankful that Ann could enjoy herself as she shared in the festivities with the family.

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Tena Ellen, Ann Swier, Margaret Bos, Theresa Salomons, and Jackie Hartenhof.

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Mexico Mission Team:

Our final meeting will be on March 17th at 7:30 p.m. We will finalize all the travel arrangements. All parents and spouses are invited to attend.

Update from the Mexico Mission Team:

On March 22nd the Mexico Mission team will be flying to San Diego and there the YWAM staff will drive them to Ensenada, Mexico. They will be in Ensenada for a week and hope to build a home and also grow closer to God by worshipping, witnessing and sharing God’s love.

They will be building a new home for Cyndy Rios Olmedo and her 2 boys, Hector, 7 and Bryan, 6. Cyndy is 24 and a single mother. Her husband abandoned her and went to live with another woman. He helps her with 600 pesos ($60) a week, but she only works 2 or 3 days a week when she is called to clean homes. Her mother helps watch the boys while she works, but it is very hard for her to have a full-time job, since the boys are small and she can’t afford a babysitter.

Our team this year consists of Veronica Bouwman, Wayne Bouwman, Brittany Brander, David Hoekstra, August Luymes, Valerie Luymes, Cindy Prins, Ian Prins, Henry Stad, Sarah Stad, Michael Szelekovszky, Steven Szelekovszky, Paul Vandyk, Heather Van Haren and Marika van Velsen. Please keep the team in your prayers as they prepare to serve and share their love for Jesus Christ to the people in Mexico. Also pray for Cyndy and her boys that this home may be a real blessing to them.“For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.”

Families & friends of the Mexico Mission team:

Interested on knowing what the team is up to? You can check up on them on the website from YWAM. Just click on www.missionadventuresphotos.org, find Ensenada and the previous date and view away!

Prayer for the Persecuted Church

The Battle continues in the provincial courts - The date is set March 31, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. PLEASE COME! The City of Calgary is bringing an injunction against Street Church. Please Pray for us. During our four festivals by-law officers were attempting to intimidate by taking pictures and gathering what they consider evidence against the church. In reality Street Church is acting on the call of Christ to feed the poor, preach to the broken hearted and share the good news of the gospel. At the end of the day, we have to realize that Street Church is acting within the guaranteed freedoms granted us under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Christians in Israel

Are looking to the future with renewed hope and expectation. The last number of years have been very difficult for them. They are asking their brothers and sisters in North America to pray for them. We want to do that, but also encourage them personally. Therefore Good NewsTours is planning a tour to Israel in the Fall of 2008. It is called a "Mission of Hope Tour”. Besides wonderful sightseeing, we will place special emphasis on prayer time for the Church in Israel as well as encouragement of local Christians.

Kids’ Poster Contest:Can you draw, paint, or colour? Then enter the 2008 World Missions Poster Contest! Attention any or all Fraser Valley Christian High School ALUMNI:

It may have been a long time ago or a short time but we invite you to come back and visit us on Saturday May 24th, 2008. We would love for you to join us for an informal Coffee House beginning at 7 pm and will include a walk down memory lane in the “Decade Gallery” featuring photos and Memorabilia from the 60s, 70s, 80s 90s and 2000s! There will be no charge for this event. The goal for the May 24 FVCHS Alumni Get Together is to reconnect our alumni with each other and the school. It has been a huge job to contact the many alumni of FVCHS and we hope that this casual evening event will allow all alumni to attend. Go to our website: www.fvchs.bc.ca for more information and to register your contact information. We look forward to seeing you again!

Christian Reformed Home Missions has created a special Holy Week devotional, with devotions written by Home Missions missionaries and staff. To read or download the devotional, please visit www.crhm.org.

The March 16 Back to God Hour program brings us to the scandal of the cross. How could the Messiah die? And even more, how could He die to save us? The program encourages us to embrace the weakness of Christ, and so find strength. Go to www.BacktoGod.net for local stations and times.

What’s the big deal about sin? Are all sins equally bad? Help Liz figure out how to say “NO” to sin on this week’s Kids Corner. Then check out the Kids Corner website at www.kids-corner.org for stories, devotions, puzzles and more.

Give Us Today Our Daily Bread: Do you know someone in your life who is hungry for purpose and a sense of worth? Go to www.diaconalministries.com to read the March issue of Partners. CRC community ministries are partnering with Operation Manna to offer the only “daily bread” that satisfies that kind of hunger.
