2008-06-01 Bulletin

We are God's Children - gathered by Him in love - to bring glory to the Triune God, to pray, to seek the lost, to nurture the young in the Lord, to care for the hurting, and to encourage one another. We do this in obedience to His Word.

Our Church Family

From Pastor Mike and Barb – we had a wonderful visit with the church in Dunnville for its 50th anniversary last weekend. It was great to see familiar faces and share the goodness of the Lord together. I could also visit my parents and sister who are all doing well.

Congratulations to Ruth Sluys as she celebrates her 73rd birthday this Tuesday, may God continue to bless you and keep you this coming year. We will remember Ruth as she goes for some testing on June 4th in Edmonton. She may be able to have her needed heart procedures sooner than previously scheduled due to her declining health. Pastor Peter & Ruth are very thankful for this new development!

We continue to remember the Nathanial Wildeboer, his parents Steve & Angela and the extended family in our prayers.

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Tilly Biel, Lea Dykstra, Tena Ellen, Jackie Hartenhof, Theresa Salomons, Ruth Sluys, and Ann Swier.

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who took the time to sign the petition asking the Alberta government and the Alberta Liquor and Gaming Commission to deny a license for a Racing Entertainment Center at the Alberta Downs Racetrack.

Next Sunday our offering will be for CRWRC: Burma/Myanmar.

Donations to CRWRC are getting through and making a difference. Additional good news is that the Canadian International Development Agency has extended the date when donations are eligible for matching to June 13th. Thank you for showing practical Christian love to distraught families in Burma.

The Outreach Ministry Leadership Team (OMLT)

Is planning a weekly supper to serve the community starting this Thursday, June 5th. Supper will be made at Bethel and served at lower Michener Park from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help prepare the food and/or serve. We could also use any food donations like muffins, cookies, hamburger, cheese, etc. Let Jeanne Ebens know if you can help out – 784-2340.

June Newsletter:

It is time to start thinking about your contributions to the June edition of the Bethel Newsletter. We hope to have it in your mailboxes for Father's Day - June 15th. If you have something you would like to contribute please get it in to one of the Newsletter team as soon as possible. We are looking for some special Father's Day contributions, so our poets in the congregation are encouraged to put pen to paper and share with us. We would also like to here from those who are graduating this year from Grade 12 or from any post secondary institutions. Would you write up a paragraph or two telling us of your goals and plans for the future? We would love to know what you are doing and where you are living so we can encourage you with notes and specific prayer throughout the year. Our family is important to us so we want to know how you are doing. If any of the Leadership Teams or ministries would like to submit wind up reports for the year, please do so. There is now a special mailbox for the newsletter. Look for it on the bottom row next to the clerk's box. You can also email your submissions to any of the members of the newsletter team. Check with them for email addresses if needed. Our deadline for this edition will be June the 8th. We look forward to hearing from all of you. Laura Duckett, Anita Geldof, Harriet Luymes, Ann Wildeboer.

Volunteer Link Church Coordinator Needed.

Volunteer Link is a ministry operating in the town of Lacombe which seeks to identify “neighbours in need” in our community and find qualified volunteers to meet those needs. Each VL member church has a Volunteer Coordinator. That position will soon be vacant in Bethel. Bethel’s VL Church Coordinator

    • links volunteers with needs
    • screens church volunteers
    • networks with other VL coordinators
    • meets with, supports, prays for and encourages Bethel VL volunteers

Do you feel called to and qualified for such a position? If you’re interested, contact Herman Scholing at 782-2701 or blscholing@hotmail.com.

Canada Day Parade

The OMLT is planning to have a float promoting our church and its ministries in the July 1st, Canada Day parade here in Lacombe. We have a design ready and just need some people who can help put it together on Monday night (June 30th). We also need some people from the church to ride on the float in the parade. We were also thinking of having kids from the church come to the staging area with their bikes (decorated or not) and we can decorate them up and they can ride alongside the float in the parade. If you can help out let Jeanne know – 784-2340.

SUMMER’S COMING

With summer just around the corner, it is time to start making plans to entertain your children during their time off of school. Summer camps are a great way to spend those days learning more about God and his beautiful creation while meeting new friends and re-acquainting with old ones, learning great camp songs, enjoying awesome scenery while on various out-trips, etc., etc. If you are looking for a great place to send your kids, why not try Sonrise Camp located just minutes from Rocky Mountain House. Denominational News

CRWRC:

Please pray for the people of Parkersburg CRC and its community in Parkersburg, Iowa, where 220 homes were destroyed and 6 people—including one CRC couple—were killed in last Sunday's tornado. CRWRC's Disaster Response Services (DRS) have volunteers on site providing spiritual support, and formulating plans for further response. Local CRCs have sent teams of volunteers to help with immediate needs. To give to this relief response, mark your cheque "Spring Storms 2008" and send to 3475 Mainway, Burlington, Ontario, L7R 3Y8; call 1-800-730-3490; or give online at www.crwrc.org.

THE BACK TO GOD HOUR:

Praise God for 4,000 people who requested the CADA DIA (TODAY) Portuguese language devotional booklet in response to a special mailing in Brazil. In almost every letter or email, the respondents said how blessed they were by reading the messages in the samples sent. Pray that God will use these devotionals to bring these families and individuals into a closer relationship with Him.

CAN I REALLY BE SURE OF MY SALVATION?

Jesus Christ died to save all who believe in Him from their sins. A very true statement, but do you ever wonder, can God really love someone like me? Does he really mean me? Or when I get to heaven is He going to turn me away because of something I’ve done or left undone? Find out on the June 8th Back to God Hour. Go to www.BacktoGod.net for local stations and times.

RACING TO WIN:

Liz has found a racing car in Grandpa’s barn. Can Liz convince Grandpa to let him drive it? Check it out on this week’s Kids Corner. Then email Kids Corner at kids@kidscorner.net for your very own Bible study.

Prayer for the Persecuted Church

Iran

Police in city of Shiraz cracked down against known Christian converts from Islam, arresting members of three Christian families and confiscating their books and computers. The arrests reportedly began on May 11th, when two couples were taken into custody at the Shiraz International Airport and sent directly to jail. All four were subjected to hours of interrogation. The two wives were released on the same day, a man was detained until May 14th, and another man remains jailed. Also on May 11th, police invaded the home of a 58 year old Christian man arresting him and his three adult children. The family's books, CDs, computers and printers were taken as well. Three persons were released later the same day, but the youngest son (21) remains in prison. On May 13th, local police picked up two more former Muslims involved in a separate house church in Shiraz as the Christian converts were talking together in a city park. Both men are still jailed. There were other arrests of Christian converts last month in the northern city of Amol - one a pregnant woman, are still imprisoned with no news of their whereabouts. Ask God for the release of those who are still in prison for their faith in the Lord (Acts 12:5). Pray that the Islamic government in Iran will allow full rights and protection for Christians in the nation.
