2008-08-17 Bulletin

We are God's Children - gathered by Him in love - to bring glory to the Triune God, to pray, to seek the lost, to nurture the young in the Lord, to care for the hurting, and to encourage one another. We do this in obedience to His Word.

Next Sunday, August 24th

We read from Ecclesiates 3:1-15 and the truth that God will make “Everything Beautiful” in his time. We see that beauty in the Lord’s Supper as it signifies the love of God in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. A reminder to the congregation that there will be no evening service here at Bethel as there will be a special Central Alberta Christian Schools Dedication service at Woodynook CRC at 7:00 p.m.

Our Church Family

This week, keep Rena DeRuiter in your prayers as we pray together as a church family.

We remember Mrs. Alice Kraay and the family at this time as she is in the palliative care unit at the hospital. She is resting comfortably with her family nearby and our Lord Jesus holds them all in his loving care. This week the flowers in the church will be brought to Mrs. Kraay and her family.

Ed and Cora Stol, Scott and Irene Fraser, John and Teena Stol, and families are thankful to provide the following update for their dad and brother, Len Stol. He had his radiation treatment and it has worked out well. While the prostrate cancer and subsequent bone cancer have not disappeared, the doctors have the pain under control. He is at home, in good spirits, eating more, and looking to gain back some of his strength. Praise God from whom all Blessings flow!

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Tilly Biel, Lea Dykstra, Tena Ellen, Jackie Hartenhof, Theresa Salomons, Ruth Sluys, and Ann Swier.

Remember our missionaries around the world.

This past Friday, August 15th

our church was blessed by a wonderful group of young people from the Gull Lake Centre. (Formerly the Baptist Bible Camp.) They came and washed all the windows in our church as a service project for a camp they were attending last week!

The church secretaries

will be in the office on Wednesday morning and all day Friday this week.

September Newsletter:

Here we go! Time to gear up for the next edition of the Bethel Newsletter. The Newsletter team is excited about the next edition and hearing from all the Ministry Leadership teams. What a great way for each of you to inform the congregation of your plans for the new church year as well as your needs and any prayer concerns. Please be sure to get a short report in by the deadline of August 26th. In September we remember Labor Day so we are looking for some of our members to tell us about their joys and challenges in the work force. Whether you are starting your very first job after graduation, or have just changed jobs or are working at the same place in a long time career - we would love to hear from you and encourage you to get in touch with us - write up something - a paragraph, a poem, whatever - help us make the newsletter something that encourages one another in daily life. We are always looking for poetry and other artistic contributions from our members - we know you are capable - please share with the congregation. In our last Newsletter, there was a call for addresses from our young adults and students away from home. To date, we have had no response. Please take the time to fill in the form included in this next Newsletter and give the congregation the opportunity to stay in touch with you and be encouraged. Looking forward to hearing from you:
Laura Duckett - rlduck@platinum.ca
Harriet Luymes - haraug@telus.net
Ann Wildeboer - awildeboer@xplornet.com

BACK TO GOD MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL:

Pray for Rev. Paul Mpindi, French ministry leader, as he leads pastor training events in Benin and Congo this month. More than 2000 pastors and church leaders are expected to attend. Pray that the follow-up training they receive will help them disciple the thousands of listeners who are coming to Christ through the ministry of Back to God Ministries International.

THE GIFT OF EARTHLINESS:

Have you ever heard or used the phrase “I just need to find myself.”? It seems that we’re all looking for our place in this world. Sometimes it feels like we’re just floating through life, no roots to hold us down, blown whatever direction the events in life send us. Where do we find our place in life on this earth? Find out on the August 24th Back to God Hour. Go to www.BacktoGod.net for local stations and times.

ROUGH WEATHER AHEAD:

A huge storm is headed straight for Liz.Can he save his best friend from disaster? Find out on this week’s Kids Corner. Be sure to listen and then email Kids Corner at kids@kidscorner.net for your very own Bible study.

Persecuted Church

Eritrea

On August 5th, authorities locked up eight Christian students of the Sawa Defense Training Centre in metal shipping containers for objecting to the burning of hundreds of Bibles that had been confiscated from new students. While setting the books on fire, a chief commander warned the students that the centre was a place of patriotism, not a place for "Pentes" (Pentecostals). When the eight male students protested the burning, they were taken into custody and imprisoned in the metal containers that authorities often use to imprison Christians found practicing their faith. Pray that these students will be released. Pray that they will come into a deeper relationship with Christ as they embrace the fellowship of His sufferings (Philippians 3:7-10). Pray for other Christians suffering for Christ's sake in Eritrean prisons.
