2008-11-16 Bulletin

We are God's Children - gathered by Him in love - to bring glory to the Triune God, to pray, to seek the lost, to nurture the young in the Lord, to care for the hurting, and to encourage one another. We do this in obedience to His Word.

Next Sunday, November 23rd

We welcome Mr. L.E. Sackmann a retired pastor of the United Methodist church who has been worshipping with us for the past two years. He will lead our worship from Genesis 12:8, “Every Home Needs an Altar.” In the evening Pastor Peter Sluys leads in a study of Ruth (the Book, not his wife). Pastor Mike has a Sunday off.

COUNCIL HI-LIGHTS from the meeting of November 12th:

This course is needed to ensure that Bethel maintains the minimum government requirements regarding food safety in the kitchen. The cost of registration for this course will be covered by Bethel. Please see Herman Scholing Jr. for a list of times and locations for the course or if you have any questions.
  2. The 2009 budget was amended.
  3. The agenda for the November 28th Congregational meeting was reviewed and approved.

Christmas Newsletter:

Time to start getting your contributions for the December Newsletter together. The months move by quickly and it is already time to start planning our next edition. We will be focusing on the wonderful gift of our Savior and all contributions whether art, or poetry or stories or fun pages for young and old are greatly appreciated. If you had planned to get a report about your group or ministry in for the November edition but didn't quite get to it, we would still love to have your report. Our aim is always to keep the congregation informed and up to date on the happenings in our church so we can pray for and encourage one another in meaningful ways. We would like to encourage the congregation to plan ahead so your contributions are ready for the team by November the 30th at thelatest. We need some time to put all things together in an organized fashion so the Newsletter is easy to read. We are also hoping to help the secretaries keep the bulletin down to a reasonable size so pass your announcements along ahead of time and we can have a page or two of announcements for your information in the newsletter. These would include announcements that would normally run for a few weeks in the bulletin and that pertain to our community at large - both in the church and in the town of Lacombe. We look forward to what God has in store for all of us in this Christmas edition of the Bethel Newsletter.

Persecuted Church

In the ongoing violence against Christians in Mosul, Iraq, two sisters were killed and their mother wounded by a gang of teenaged assailants on November 12th. The gunmen shot one of the sisters as she was waiting for a bus outside of her house. They then stormed into her home and killed her sister and injured her mother. A bomb placed by the assailants at the entrance of the house detonated as the police arrived on the scene, injuring several officers. Ask God to fill those who mourn for these sisters with a peace that surpasses understanding in the midst of their grief (Philippians 4:7). Pray for healing for their mother as she recovers. Ask God to bring peace to Mosul. For more information on the plight of Iraqi Christians, please visit www.persecution.net/iraq.htm. A new video from CBN on the persecution of Christians in Mosul is now available on www.persecution.tv.
