2009-01-25 January 25 Bulletin

We are God's Children - gathered by Him in love - to bring glory to the Triune God, to pray, to seek the lost, to nurture the young in the Lord, to care for the hurting, and to encourage one another. We do this in obedience to His Word.

Next Sunday, February 1st

We welcome Wayne Bouwman, who will lead our morning worship reflecting on Jesus’ miracle in John 2:1-11 “Water into Wine.” In the evening Pastor Peter Sluys will lead our worship. Pastor Mike is attending “Breakforth” in Edmonton.

Our Church Family

Please keep Teena Ellen in your daily prayers this week.

Ruth Sluys has been diagnosed with emphysema, which affects her lungs. No closing of the remaining hole in her heart has been considered yet. Due to necessary blood thinners she experiences many nose bleeds and makes trips to the emergency room rather frequently. She remains very tired and stays at home. She enjoys visits and occasionally ventures out for a brief time. We both thank so many of you who help us out at times.

Congratulations to Henny Middag as she celebrates her 77th birthday this coming Wednesday. May God be with you in a special way on your birthday and in the coming year.

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Tilly Biel, Lea Dykstra, Tena Ellen, Wigger Meindersma, Theresa Salomons, Ruth Sluys, and Ann Swier.

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Profession of Faith class:

Pastor Mike is planning to offer a profession of faith class for those who feel they have been called by God’s grace and the Holy Spirit to confirm Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Anyone who is interested please contact Pastor Mike and we will arrange a suitable time for the classes.

Persecuted Church

Pakistan

Pakistani Christian sisters Parvisha Masih (18) and Sanam Masih (14) face a long legal battle after escaping from Muslim kidnappers who raped and forced them to convert to Islam. Both girls were forcibly converted to Islam and their names were changed. When Sanam heard her sister crying out for help, she was able to steal a cell phone and call the police. The lawyers and kidnappers, who held the girls captive since November, were arrested and the girls were returned to their parents. The Masih family anticipates a long and difficult battle for justice, as the legal system typically favours Muslims and rarely rules against alleged conversions to Islam. AskGod to grant Parvisha and Sanam His healing, love, and strength as they recover from these attacks, especially as they fear a future of societal rejection. Pray that those responsible will repent and come to know Jesus. Pray for wisdom for the family's lawyers.

Denominational News

Prayer Request:

Praise God for the completion of the third set of French language Bible study correspondence lessons. More than 9,000 students in Africa have completed the first two sets of lessons and are eager to continue growing in God’s Word. Pray for enough volunteers to mentor these students of the Bible.

The Brute Power of Gentleness:

Are you gentle in relationships? Or are you more forceful and assertive? Do you think this affects whether you are a strong or weak person? We live in a culture that values strength and despises weakness. But how does our interpretation of strength affect our relationships? Is there power in gentleness? Find out on the Feb. 1 Back to God Hour. Go to www.BacktoGod.net for local stations and times.

Computer Caper:
