2009-02-22 February 22 Bulletin

We are God's Children - gathered by Him in love - to bring glory to the Triune God, to pray, to seek the lost, to nurture the young in the Lord, to care for the hurting, and to encourage one another. We do this in obedience to His Word.

Next Sunday, March 1st

We begin the season of Lent. It is a time in the church year that we reflect on Jesus suffering and death for our sins. We will be reading selections from the Gospel of Luke. In the evening we read from Esther and “God’s Providential Care.” Pastor Mike will lead the services.

Our Church Family

This week, keep Klaas and Lies Boskers in your daily prayers.

The flowers this week will be delivered to her and we pray that you may have a wonderful day celebrating God's goodness in your life. Wishing you the very best for the year that lies ahead.

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Tilly Biel, Lea Dykstra, Tena Ellen, Wigger Meindersma, Theresa Salomons, Ruth Sluys, and Ann Swier.

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Denomination News

CRWRC:

CFGB Sunday is March 1- Each year disasters leave millions of people with few options to feed their families and rebuild their lives. By working together we can make a difference. Last year, your generosity, combined with CIDA's 4:1 match, enabled CRWRC to respond to disasters in 16 countries and provide food to more than half a million people. Next week, on Canadian Foodgrains Bank Sunday, we are asking you to please give again. Please prayerfully consider what you can give to provide a better tomorrow to those in need.

PRAYING THE SALVATION STORY:

Is it possible to know, much less believe, that God listens to prayers when it is so hard to see concrete answers? The Bible is full of stories about how God has done great things for people in the past, but how do those stories help us in the present? How does praying enable us to feel God's power? Find out on the Mar. 1 Back to God Hour. Go to www.BacktoGod.net for local stations and times.

PATROL OF THE YEAR:

Which is more important: following the rules or being kind? Help Liz discover the answer on this week’s Kids Corner. Then check out the Kids Corner website at www.kidscorner.net for stories, devotions, puzzles and more.

Did you know that Diaconal Ministry Developers (DMDs) are important resource people for your church? In every church of every classis, DMDs are available to support and equip deacons in knowing their role and developing their leadership in ministry. To learn more, visit DMC's website at www.diaconalministries.com/resources/dmd.htm.

Persecuted Church

China

At least 60 house church leaders, including two South Korean pastors, were arrested while attending a seminar in Henan province, on February 11th. Approximately 30 police disrupted the meeting, arrested Christians and confiscated phones, books and money. Authorities forced the believers to register and pay a fine. Some of the elderly believers were then released. Police from the home provinces of the church leaders were summoned to Henan to escort Christians to local detention facilities. The South Korean pastors were expelled from China on February 14t for "engaging in illegal religious activities" and have been banned from entering the country for five years. On February 16th, two more house church leaders were released after authorities received calls from foreign journalists. At the time of the report, four leaders remained in detention. Pray for the release of those detained. Pray that Christians in China will continue to stand firm in their faith in the face of opposition (Acts 5:29).
