Our Church Family

Darran and Gayle Vreugdenhil were blessed with a baby boy, Jason Kent, born August 22nd. We give thanks to God for the miracle of life and his wonderful blessings.

Albert Biel is slowing recovering at home and it will be a while before he can get out again.

Herman Scholing Sr. was able to come home from the hospital this past Thursday.

Henry Geldof was hospitalized last week due to complications from his surgery. He was able to come home on Thursday and is slowly recovering there.

We pray God will be with each of our church members who are struggling with their health and strengthen them with his special care & grace.

Pastor Mike and Barb wish to thank the congregation for their many best wishes, cards and the lovely flowers for our anniversary. You helped make our special day that much more fun.

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Tilly Biel, Lea Dykstra, Wigger Meindersma, Theresa Salomons, Ruth Sluys and Ann Swier.

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Next Sunday, September 6th

We complete our look at the Contemporary Testimony – “Our World Belongs to God” as it declares in a world that marginalizes the church that in fact there is nothing more powerfully at work in this world than the church. In the evening we read from the prophet Obadiah and “Whatever happened to Esau?” Pastor Mike will lead the services.

A Double Bridal Shower:

Ladies and girls are invited to a double bridal shower for Jolene Hanna, (fiancée to Josh Noordhof) and Miranda Noordhof in the fellowship hall on Friday, September 11, 2009.

Desperately Needed - GEMS Counselors

The GEMS program is in desperate need of FOUR Counselors for the upcoming season. The program runs from mid September - April. If there are any ladies willing to assist in any way, please talk to Jeanne Ebens, Wannetta Brander, or Judy Hazelhoff. Please step up and assist with this worthwhile program.

Here is an opportunity to help! If you are off work or school or at home on Wednesday mornings (9:30 -11:30) Debby van Iperen would love to have a helper of any age in Story Hour. We have found that with a well run Story Hour the children want to come and so in turn encourage their moms to attend Coffee Break. Story Hour is a very important ministry. Contact Debby for any further information at 403-782-0899.

September Newsletter

Another month is gone and it is time to get into the swing of things. The September newsletter is looking for your information. We would like to hear from the different groups as to when they hope to start up - what they are studying and any prayer concerns. Please let us know so we can put together a page of good information for the congregation to refer to. Also, don't forget your contributions for the contest. Please refer to your last two newsletters for reminders or talk to any of the newsletter team. We are looking forward to lots of entries and plenty of fun and great material from the congregation to make the newsletter your own! Any other articles are greatly appreciated. The deadline will be August 31st so we can have the newsletter in your mailboxes on September 6th. Just place your stuff in the newsletter mailbox or email to anyone of the team members. Laura Duckett - rlduck@platinum.ca, Harriet Luymes - haraug@telus.net, Anita Geldof - ahgeldof@telus.net and Ann Wildeboer - awildeboer@xplornet.com.

The Persecuted Church

Church burned in Andhra Pradesh, India

The Best Friends Church building in the village of Mahasamudram in Andhra Pradesh, India was burned to the ground at approximately 10:30 p.m. on August 20th by suspected Hindu activists. A dedication service for the newly constructed church building had been scheduled for August 30th. The structure was built by the church's pastor on his own property after seven years of hosting worship services in his home. Pray that the believers of this church will continue to gather together for worship. Pray that those responsible will experience repentance and salvation, just as Paul did (Acts 9:1-19).
