Our Church Family

Please keep our family of the week, John & Mar-Deb de Regt and family in your daily prayers.

Our condolences go out to Simon Swier and the family: Cathy Dowling, Roger & Anita Swier, sisters, Dorothy Meindersma and Helena Kits with the death of Ann Swier this past Wednesday. She was 84 years old. The funeral was yesterday. May God’s loving claim on her as his child continue to comfort the family in this time of grief.

Ruth Sluys is not doing well at this time. She has another complication, not yet diagnosed, which causes much pain and sleeplessness. May God give healing in whatever way He chooses. Ruth is currently in the Red Deer hospital and loves to have visitors but may be sleeping at times due to her pain medication.

Jan and Jacoba Voorbij and Chan Sui and Willow Phung of Calgary are happy to invite you to be present at the marriage of their children, Janneke and Phong on D.V. November 7th at 11 a.m., here at Bethel church. Their future address is 203 6223, 31st Avenue NW, Calgary T3B 3X2.

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Tilly Biel, Lea Dykstra, Wigger Meindersma, Theresa Salomons, Ruth Sluys and Ann Swier.

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

World Hunger Sunday:

Today we remember those who gather around tables which don’t contain the abundance that ours do. As we worship today, let’s remember that Jesus came that we all might have abundant life. Let’s consider how God is calling us to reach out to those who suffer from hunger. Thank you for supporting them through your contributions to CRWRC. If you want to know more about world hunger or what CRWRC is doing to help, or if you want to find out ways that you can get involved, please visit www.crwrc.org.

Next Sunday, November 8th

We focus on being a “Safe Church” in an uncertain world. We will also celebrate the Lord’s Supper. In the evening we will turn to the Prophet Haggai and “The Signet Ring.” Pastor Mike will lead the services.

The Today booklet or Family Altar:

You may have noticed that we do not have as many Today booklets as we have had in the past. The CRC denomination has had to take some cost cutting measures because of the economic recession and they are sending less of the Today booklets to us. We are in the process of obtaining more for our church. In the meantime we ask that you only take one book for your family. If you require more copies, they are available on our church website (go to www.lacombebethelcrc.org and click on the TODAY devotional link) or contact the church secretaries and we can print one up for you. Thank you!

Bethel GEMS Club is collecting EYE GLASSES to be sent to Africa and given to GEMS LEADERS who have difficulty seeing. Glasses simply are not available for them. If you have any eye glasses & cases you no longer use, or would be willing to purchase a pair of reading glasses &/or cases, please place them in mailbox of Judy Hazelhoff, Jeanne Ebens or Wannetta Brander.

“Fuente de Vida” adult mission team

Update on the “Fuente de Vida” adult mission team: The team will be flying from Calgary to San Diego on November 2nd. There, the YWAM vans will pick us up and drive us across the border to the YWAM base in Ensenada, Mexico. The team consists of 18 adults, including Art Hazelhoff, August & Harriet Luymes, Peter & Gerry Prins, Herman Scholing Jr. & Grant Zuidhof from our church. Pray for safety on our travels, in Mexico and the building project. Pray for good health, strength & unity within the team. The Persecuted Church

Amina Muse Ali (45) was murdered in her home in Somalia on the evening of October 19th by three masked members of Suna Waljameca, a militant Islamic group. Ali had earlier received threats from militants for not wearing a veil to show her adherence to Islam. They had reportedly been monitoring Ali for some time as they suspected her of being a Christian. Ali, a long-time believer, had been actively involved in the underground church and the Somali Christian Brothers' Organization, a movement that has been targeted several times by Muslim militants. Pray for those mourning the loss of Amina Muse Ali. Pray for the small, suffering community of believers in Somalia. Pray that those who persecute Christians in Somalia will know Christ's love, forgiveness and blessing through the lives of believers (Romans 12:14, 21).
