Our Church Family

Please keep our family of the week, Peter and Polly Mooy in your daily prayers.

Jim Brander had an appendix operation last week and was in the hospital for several days. We are thankful all went well and trust God will provide a speedy recovery.

Ruth's heart procedure has been scheduled for Tuesday November 10th, if she will be able to sustain it. This past week she was relocated to isolation room 3323 with shingles, but is out of the contagious stage. We hope and pray that she may be fit for the non-invasive operation and sustain it.

Several adults and children in our fellowship have coughs, colds and flu. Along with the added stress of wondering if it will become more serious. May God grant peace for anxious hearts and health for tired bodies.

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Tilly Biel, Lea Dykstra, Wigger Meindersma, Theresa Salomons and Ruth Sluys.

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Next Sunday, November 15th

Pastor Mike has a Classical appointment in Edmonton at Trinity CRC for both services. We welcome Edmonton Military Chaplain David Sutherland to lead our morning service.

Safe Church Policy

Today placed in your mailboxes is a copy of the Safe Church Policy. For those who volunteer at Bethel, a copy of a Volunteer Form is included. This should be filled out by all persons 16 years and older. If you have submitted a form in the past, please understand that this is a complete blanket of our church volunteers and your old form has been disposed of properly. There is a sheet attached with your name and the ministries that you are involved in. If a ministry was forgotten or one was included that you no longer volunteer for, please contact Dana to have this information corrected. Forms are requested to be handed in to the Church Secretaries Mailboxby November 22, 2009. For those who are ministry coordinators with volunteers from other churches or community please hand out the policy and forms to those involved at your next gathering. If you have any questions about the policy or about the volunteer form contact Dana van Gyssel at home or at the church by phone or email.

Sunday Morning Breakfast

The Fellowship Ministry Leadership Team would like to invite the congregation to a Sunday morning breakfast on November 22nd at 9:00 a.m. There is no cost, so come out and fellowship with one another before the morning worship. For more information contact Debby van Iperen

The Today booklet or Family Altar:

You may have noticed that we do not have as many Today booklets as we have had in the past. The CRC denomination has had to take some cost cutting measures because of the economic recession and they are sending less of the Today booklets to us. We are in the process of trying to obtain more for our church. In the meantime we ask that you only take one book for your family. If you require more copies, they are available on our church website (go to www.lacombebethelcrc.org and click on the TODAY devotional link) or contact the church secretaries and we can print one up for you. Thank you!

New Church Picture Directory:

We are looking at putting together a new Picture Directory for Bethel and are asking for each family to submit a family picture. If you do not have a recent picture Pauline Bos will be taking pictures after church on November 15th and 22nd. There is a signup sheet on the table in the back foyer for people needing to have a picture taken. Please include with your picture the following information so we can be sure to have accurate information for everyone; all names (for correct spelling), birthdays of everyone (we don't require the years of the adults), anniversary date, address, phone number. Also cell phone and e-mail address if you would like to have them included. Please put picture with information in Natalie Rosendal's mail box by Today November 8th

Bethel Youth

Tuesday Nite Youth

Will meet on Tuesday, November 10th. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.

Announcements

Upcoming Estate Planning Information Night

If you’re one of the many Albertans who has not yet prepared a proper Last Will & Testament, you should become aware of the consequences. By default, your estate would be governed by the “Estate Plan” that the Government of Alberta has prepared for you and that plan (actually, lack of plan) will not express your Christian values as regards faith, family and finances. If you are interested in how to go about preparing your Last Will & Testament or reviewing the Estate Plan you have in place (changes in your life’s circumstances may require changes in your Will), we invite you to attend the CSS Estate Planning Information Night on November 12 at 7:30 to be held at The Lacombe Christian School, West Campus Common Area. For further information, please contact Fiona at the Lacombe Christian School 403-782-6531.

Central Alberta Christian High School

Is having their annual fall drive from November 6th to December 14th. You should be receiving an information sheet today and you will be contacted by phone by a canvasser in your area. If you were not contacted please call Wendy at the school 403-782-4535. You may send your donation directly to the school at 22 Eagle Road, Lacombe, Alberta T4L 1G7: Attention Wendy Barnes. Please consider this fall drive prayerfully.

Fiery Faith & Fiddles

The Sky Family presents an evening with Light, Laughter and the Joy of the Lord, a High Energy Celtic Dance and Gospel production. This event is on Saturday November 21st at 7:00 p.m. at the Lacombe Pentacostal Church. A love offering will be collected.

The Persecuted Church

Iran

The Voice of the Martyrs recently learned of the arrest of Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani in Iran on October 12th after he protested against the decision of local authorities to impose the reading of the Koran on Christian children. This requirement, Pastor Nadarkhani insisted, violates the Declaration of Universal Human Rights, which Iran has signed. It states that "Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children" (Article 26). Authorities told the pastor that he went too far with this protest. "Not happy with the fact that we tolerate you, you pushed too far your boldness by refusing that your children follow Koranic courses." At last report, Pastor Nadarkhani remained in detention. Pray for Christians in Iran as they continue to serve the Lord despite great opposition. Pray for Pastor Nadarkhani's release and Pray that he will have continued courage to stand up for his convictions.

This Sunday, November 8th, Christians around the world will join together in prayer for suffering believers through The International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP). Are you planning to pray? Whether you pray as a church, with a group or individually, your prayers will be a powerful way to remember and uplift those suffering for their faith in Jesus Christ.
