2010-02-21 February 21 Bulletin

Welcome to worship this Sunday at Bethel. We are glad you came! A special welcome to Rev. William Glashouwer, pastor and President of “Christians for Israel International” who is here from Holland and will bring the message this morning. May God be praised in our worship today. Do stay for fellowship and refreshments after the morning service.

Our Church Family

Congratulations to Ann Vander Wal as she celebrates her 86th birthday on Saturday. May God continue to richly bless you into the new year!

Remember Albert Biel in our prayers as he was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis. He is confined to his bed and not feeling well. He is on medication and requests no visitors at the moment.

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Tilly Biel, Lea Dykstra, Wigger Meindersma, and Theresa Salomons.

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Next Sunday, February 28th

We read from John 9:1-23, 39-41, text, verse 39 to cut through our blindness that we might “See Jesus.” We will also be celebrating the Lord’s Supper together. In the evening we will look at the book of Acts. Pastor Mike will lead the services.

A HUGE THANK YOU

To all who attended the Sweetheart Dinner last week Friday. We hope you had a great time! We did! Thanks to all the servers & cooks, thanks to all who donated and prepared food, thanks to all who loaned decorations and helped with the photo shoot, thanks to the M.C.’s and everyone that participated in the program, and thanks to all who helped with the clean-up. It made for a great fundraiser and we raised over $2900.00! Your support of the Mexico Mission Trip is so greatly appreciated!

To all groups and committees: if you have anything in the kitchen cupboards, the Kitchen Renovation Committee asks that you clean out your items by February 25th. Renovations to our kitchen will soon take place and we need time to prep for the work. Thank you!

Nomination of Office Bearers:

Once again it is time to consider nominations of office bearers. This year we have 2 elders completing their terms, one youth elder, and two deacons. On the 7th of March, the congregation will be invited to nominate persons for the various offices. Please consider this matter over the next two weeks. On March 7th, nomination forms will be distributed to the church membership, and they will also be collected on that day. As a council, we value the input of the congregation. Please prayerfully consider whom you might nominate.

A reminder to all teachers & leaders of church programs:

Please ensure that the lights have been turned off and doors closed when you leave your classrooms. Fire regulations require that we do this in our church. This applies to the nursery, fellowship hall & kitchen as well. Thank you from the General Administration LT.

March Newsletter

Another month gone by! As we look towards another month, we are beginning work on our newsletter. For those who wish to keep us updated on the activities of their group or ministry team, we would love to hear from you. We are always ready to receive special items from the congregation and love to hear from you. Our deadline for the next issue will be March 1st. The newsletter will be in your boxes on the 7th. You can email any member of the team or put items in the newsletter mailbox in the foyer. Thanks so much. Ann Wildeboer, Laura Duckett, Harriet Luymes, Anita Geldof: ahgeldof@shaw.ca

Circle of Friends

Has been running weekly for 1.5 years. We began by handing out bag suppers in Michener Park on June 5, 2008. We started with 3 people that evening, and we always had the “faithful few" who would come each week and some are still coming now. That fall we decided to change the venue and host the meal in our church and we have been serving a hot meal there ever since. We cook for between 55-80 people each Thursday evening and each week we have volunteers scheduled to set up tables and chairs, wash dishes, and clean up after the meal. Circle of Friends has been a wonderful ministry and we have been blessed to see some of them attend our services. We would like to continue showing God's love to the community, so we are looking for members of the congregation to come to eat with and visit the people who attend Circle of Friends. We are always looking for more volunteers to help with kitchen duty as well, so if this interests you, please let us know. To volunteer, or if you have any questions, please call Jeanne Ebens at 782-7872 or anyone from the Outreach MLT. We invite everyone to come check it out and see what is happening at Bethel each Thursday evening from 5:00 to 6:00 pm.

Announcements

Hello from Vancouver!

The Olympics have been underway for over a week now and we at YWAM Vancouver are very busy hosting a large outreach in the city with over 170 participants from all over the world. I have been working with a team of three other women for over a year now in preparation for this time. As the registrar, it's been an exciting time of finally seeing the faces behind the names I have been in touch with for months, and to watch as God uses them to touch people's lives. So far we have seen people come to Christ, as well as some healings, and only God knows how many seeds have been planted. Please keep praying for us! Next Sunday, February 28th, the offering is for me and my service with YWAM Vancouver. I would like to ask you to prayerfully consider giving. There is no wage in YWAM and I have been finding myself a bit short in finances lately. Thank you for your support! If you have any questions you can contact me at 778-686-4365 or krista.prins@gmail.com. - Krista Prins.

Persecuted Church

Iraq

The Christian community in Mosul, Iraq was targeted in recent days in brutal attacks that some believe are motivated by the upcoming March 7th parliamentary elections. On February 13th, Sabah al Dahhan was kidnapped by a gang that has since demanded a large sum of money for his release. The next day, Rayan Bashir Salem was shot and killed in his home by armed assailants. Rayan's brother was also wounded in the attack. On February 15th, a 42-year old believer, Najim Abdullah Fatoukhi, was murdered in front of his fruit and vegetable shop in a drive-by shooting. Two Christian university students, Zayid Thomas (21) and Ramsen Shamyael (22), were shot by a gunman on February 16th. Zayid died from his wounds and Ramsen was injured. The following day, another Christian student, Wissam Georges (20), was shot multiple times while on his way to teachers' college. Pray for the friends and family members mourning the loss of these believers. Pray that the Christian community in Mosul will not be fearful but trust God (Revelation 2:10). Pray that Sabah will be released from his captors unharmed. Pray for protection and stability for other Iraqi believers as the elections approach.
