Bethel News

Next Sunday, March 28th

Is Palm Sunday. We read the account from John 12:12-33, and “Glory through Suffering.” In the evening we read from 2 Corinthians. Aren’t the two letters exactly the same? Not at all. Pastor Mike will lead the services.

Youth Mexico Mission Team - important notice:

Please note thatour final meeting is right after the morning worship service today. We will finalize the travel arrangements and last minute information. All parents are invited to attend, so grab your coffee or juice and join us in the church sanctuary.

Bethel telephone directory

The church secretaries are currently updating the Bethel telephone directory. Today you will find a directory page in your mailbox with your family name highlighted on it. Please check your information and make any necessary changes on the back of the page and put the page in the secretaries' mailbox in the foyer. If the information is correct, put the page as is in the secretaries' mailbox as well. We ask that you do not take the pages home as we need them to update the directory. We will be on hand after the morning service to help anyone who needs assistance. Thank you from Cindy Prins and Dana van Gyssel.

Seniors’ Club:

Due to the renovation of the church kitchen, the seniors will have their meeting this coming Tuesday, March 23rd at the Woodynook CRC at 9:30 a.m.

The spring congregational meeting

Will be held this coming Wednesday, March 24th at 7:30 p.m. There will be an opportunity to snap up some useful kitchen items from the old kitchen and contribute to the Kitchen renovation project. This is the meeting where all Ministry Leadership teams give their annual report! All other groups, committees and Bible studies are asked to submit a written report for the April Newsletter to share the details of their work with the congregation.

Sunday Morning coffee:

During the kitchen renovation there will be a small kitchen centre set up in the basement at the bottom of the stairs by the elevator door. Coffee, juice fixings and disposable cups etc., can be found in this area. We will continue to enjoy our time of coffee after the morning worship service in the fellowship hall. Bring your travel coffee mugs if you would rather not drink from the paper cups! The coffee & juice will be put in the appropriate serving containers ahead of time. The juice will be made in the large brown dispenser. If you are scheduled to serve coffee, please bring the juice and coffee cart upstairs using the elevator. The coffee pot can be plugged in the floor plug in the middle of the floor. Disposable cups and cream & sugar & spoons can be brought up to the fellowship hall as well. Please return all supplies to the basement kitchen area when you are finished with them. Thank you!

Kitchen Reno

The kitchen renovation has started and changes are happening! The main construction and the large appliances are part of the budget but we would also like to do some fund-raising to help purchase some extras. New plates, cutlery, platters and other items are on our list. The kitchen committee would like to invite everyone to participate in the special Kitchen fundraisers planned for the Congregational Meeting on March 24th.

  1. Kitchen Keepsakes – pick some souvenirs from the old kitchen and make a donation.
  2. Kitchen Bake Sale and Cake/Dessert Auction.
  3. Kitchen Bucket – will be conveniently located for contributions for any part or the whole kitchen project.
  4. We will also auction a stove and a double stainless steel sink.

We hope there will be a good turnout, good fun and good support !

Update from the Youth Mexico Mission Team:

On Saturday, March 27th the Youth Mexico Mission team will be leaving for the YWAM base in Ensenada, Mexico. We will be in Ensenada for a week and hope to build a house and also grow closer to God by worshipping, witnessing and sharing God’s love. The new house we hope to build is for the Martinez Diaz family, Jesus (38) and Monica (34) and their three boys, Miguel (13), Diego (7) and Jesus (2 months). Monica left her first husband when Diego was born, and moved back to Ensenada. A few years later she met Jesus and they got married and they had a little boy. They live in a small trailer that belongs to Monica’s sister. They bought a piece of land right next to where they are living and began to build a small room (3x3 meters), but they couldn’t finish it, because they are still paying off the piece of land. Jesus worked in a store, but was paid very little. Right now he works on a fishing boat, cleaning fish. He has to leave home for 3 months at a time and makes 1000 pesos ($80) a week. He sends all his money to Monica to pay the bills. It has been very hard for them to build a house. With the help from Bethel CRC and corporate sponsors we will be able to give them a new home. Our team consists of Stephanie Bouwman, Wayne Bouwman, Rob deRegt, Taylor Duckett, Alana Ebens, Joseph Geldof, Stephanie Hoekstra, August Luymes, Valerie Luymes, Heather Noordhof, Gerry Prins, Martha Stad, Aaron Swier, Travis Ure, Brett Vandenborn, Krista Vanderleek, Jordan VanStryland, and Brent Venhuis. Please keep us in your prayers as we prepare to serve and share our love for Jesus Christ to the people in Mexico. Pray for safety, health and team unity. Also pray for the Martinez Diaz family as they receive this new home and that it may be a blessing to them.

“For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.”

Aid and Prayers Needed for Nigeria

Tensions in Jos, Nigeria remain high. Thus far, all CRC personnel are safe, but they ask for your continued prayers for peace in the region as “the people of Plateau State, Nigeria walk a long path of grieving, healing, and rebuilding.” CRWRC and CRWM are responding to needs in Jos by offering food and medical assistance. To support this effort, please mark your gift “Nigeria Unrest 2010.” You may also give online at www.crwrc.org or by calling 1-800-730-3490.

Persecuted Church

Thirteen Christians were killed on March 17th when Muslim Fulani herdsmen attacked two Christian villages in Plateau state, Nigeria. The attacks were presumably sparked by a dispute over property. The assailants, some of whom were dressed in military uniforms, attacked Byei and Baten villages at approximately 1:00 a.m. Among those killed were children and two pregnant women. Several other believers have been hospitalized for gunshot or machete wounds. Twenty homes were also burned down in the villages. This latest attack comes less than two weeks after a massive assault, also in Plateau state, in which approximately 500 people were killed. Pray that the Lord will supply the loved ones of those killed with comfort and grace as they mourn. Pray for healing for those with injuries. Pray that God will fill Nigerian believers' hearts with peace beyond comprehension in the midst of terrible violence.
