2010-09-19 September 19 Bulletin

Welcome to worship at Bethel this Sunday. This morning we have the great privilege to celebrate the Lord’s Supper together. May God be praised and we his people be encouraged in living for him.

Our Church Family

Congratulations to Maddy and Trent Scholing as they were married yesterday! May our Lord continue to bless the both of you in your married life together.

Our Christian condolences go out to Jake and Agnes Prins with the very sudden death of Jake’s sister Anje in Holland. She was 85 years old. May the comfort of God’s grace in Jesus Christ surround you and the family in this time of sadness.

We would like to thank the congregation for your cards, prayers, visits, and words of encouragement while Herman Scholing Sr. was in the hospital. We are grateful to have him back at home to enjoy each new day! We also feel very blessed to have our church family for support. With grateful hearts, The Scholing Family

A brother in law to Herman Scholing, Philip Vander Veen of Calgary, passed away from a massive stroke last Sunday. May the Lord comfort your family in your time of deep sorrow.

Craig Van Stryland did not receive his chemotherapy treatment this past week as planned because his blood counts were not high enough. Pray that his counts will go up and that he will be able to receive the treatments as scheduled.

Harvest time is or soon will be upon us. Once again the Lord has blessed us with crops that look good. This can be a very rewarding and fulfilling time of the year. It can also be a very stressful time, working long hours, dealing with weather, as well as dealing with everything else that goes on in our lives. In light of all this, we have the opportunity to help Craig & Marcella Van Stryland and their family bring in their crops. We are looking for farmers that would be willing to come out with their combines and / or trucks, to help bring in their barley and canola. We are all aware of their situation. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together not only as a community, but also as a church family, to continue to show our love and support for the Van Stryland’s during this difficult time. If you are able to help in this way please call Herman 403-350-3738 or Art 403-782-7976 Thank-you

Thank you! To all the ladies who came to my wedding shower on August 25th and for all the gifts we received. Mike and I will definitely put them all to good use. It is wonderful to feel the support from our Christian family. The congregation is welcome to attend our wedding ceremony on Friday, September 24th at 1 p.m. in Woody Nook Christian Reformed Church.
Jen Schoneburg & Michael Oudman

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Tony & Henny Middag, Tilly Biel, Lea Dykstra, Wigger Meindersma, and Herman Scholing Sr.

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Next Sunday, September 26th

We begin a series of sermons on “Worship.” The preaching will be reinforced through a devotional book that you can take home with you. This is another book from CRC publications Discipleship series. Each week the message will take one facet of worship and then in the daily readings you and your family reflect more deeply and broadly on what it is to truly worship our great God. In the evening service we read from Jeremiah 10:1-16 and Belgic Confession Article One as it states our belief in “The Only God.” Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

A number of items were left over from the Youth Retreat. Hoodies, pillows, and smaller items are located in the lost and found box downstairs next to the elevator door. Even if you don’t think you left anything behind, please take a look. You might be surprised that you actually did!

Attention all Youth:

Young Adults:

Come and get lost in Edmonton’s Corn Maze (www.edmontoncornmaze.ca), Saturday, September 25th from 7-9 p.m. A campfire and snacks will follow, (for those who can make it out of the maze!) Cost will be $10 per person. Contact Amy Stol 780-952-6578 for more info or to RSVP your spot.

Presently there are no chaplaincy services at Red Deer College. This has much to do with a change in the RDC administration. Soon we hope and pray that spiritual care can be available again at this growing institution. In the meanwhile, Pastor Jack Hielema can be contacted to share with you the life of Christ. Phone: 403.348.5464, 47 Hill Crescent, Red Deer AB T4N 6G3 or email: jackhielema@shaw.ca. Pastor Jack hopes to contact other caregivers in Central Alberta to assist our students. Please pray for the exciting but also complicated world in which students live and work.

The Persecuted Church

Indonesia

Members of the Batak Christian Protestant Filadelfia Church in Bekasi, were attacked by a group of eight unknown assailants during a worship service on September 11th. An elder, Asia Sihombing, was stabbed in the stomach. When Reverend Luspida Simanjuntak tried to come to his assistance, she was beaten with a stick and injured on her face, head and back. At last report, both of the believers were recovering in a local hospital. In August, the congregation was victim to a similar attack by Muslim militants opposed to the members holding worship services on a church-owned plot of land. Reverend Luspida, however, insisted that they had a right to worship in the open and said that she would continue her mission without fear despite growing threats against Christians. The recent violence has intensified fears among Christians, human rights activists and many other Indonesians over the decline of religious freedom in the country. Pray for healing for Asia and Reverend Luspida. Pray that the assailants will be apprehended. Ask God to give these church members boldness and wisdom as they face difficult challenges because of their faith (Psalm 91, Isaiah 26:3).
