Our Church Family

Dear congregation: My father, John Vandyk died peacefully at Stabler Hospice in St. Catharines on Tuesday, September 21st. He was 85 years old. He knew the end was near and was very much at peace. I will be leading a memorial service in St. Catharines on Saturday, October 2nd, remembering and giving thanks to God for a life of humble love and service to us as family and to the Christian Reformed Church as a pastor. Pastor Mike

Justyce Noordhof, dear daughter of Josh and Jolene, granddaughter of Bryan and Yvonne continues to be treated for tumors found on her face and neck. We ask that our Lord Jesus would take this little one in his arms and bless her and the family in this uncertain time.

Harvest time is or soon will be upon us. Once again the Lord has blessed us with crops that look good. This can be a very rewarding and fulfilling time of the year. It can also be a very stressful time, working long hours, dealing with weather, as well as dealing with everything else that goes on in our lives. In light of all this, we have the opportunity to help Craig & Marcella Van Stryland and their family bring in their crops. We are looking for farmers that would be willing to come out with their combines and / or trucks, to help bring in their barley and canola. We are all aware of their situation. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together not only as a community, but also as a church family, to continue to show our love and support for the Van Stryland’s during this difficult time. If you are able to help in this way please call Herman 403-350-3738 or Art 403-782-7976 Thank-you

Congratulations to Herman Scholing Sr. as he celebrates his 88th birthday on Saturday. Wishing you a wonderful day with family and friends, and may the Father continue to bless you into your new year!

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Tony & Henny Middag, Tilly Biel, Lea Dykstra, Wigger Meindersma, and Herman Scholing Sr.

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Rake and Serve:

As we see the leaves falling, the Outreach MLT is planning on giving back to our immediate community by raking the leaves of the homes around the church. In this way we can demonstrate our love for God and our neighbor. We plan to meet on Saturday, October 2nd at 9:00 a.m. and it should take till lunch time. There will be lunch provided. All you need to do is bring a rake and a smile. See you this Saturday.

No Chaplaincy Services at Red Deer College

Presently there are no chaplaincy services at Red Deer College. This has much to do with a change in the RDC administration. Soon we hope and pray that spiritual care can be available again at this growing institution. In the meanwhile, Pastor Jack Hielema can be contacted to share with you the life of Christ. Phone: 403-348-5464, 47 Hill Crescent, Red Deer AB, T4N 6G3 or email: jackhielema@shaw.ca. Pastor Jack hopes to contact other caregivers in Central Alberta to assist our students. Please pray for the exciting but also complicated world in which students live and work.

The Persecuted Church

China

The court proceedings for the trial of two Chinese Christians imprisoned in Henan province, began on September 20th. The outcome of the proceedings is not yet known. It was reported, however, that several believers who had come to witness the event were detained, including a previously imprisoned Pastor, Zhang Mingxuan and his wife. They were released a few hours later. Other local Christians, including the son of the defendant Liu Yunhua, were detained by authorities on their way home from the trial. These believers remained detained at last report. Pray for the release of the detained believers. Pray for patience of heart and strength of faith for Liu and Gao as they face opposition. Ask God to continue to equip and embolden Pastor Zhang in his ministry.
