Our Church Family

Steve & Carmen McKerrow sent us a note from Australia sharing the good news that God has blessed them with a baby girl. They named her Kiera Indigo.

Ian Prins had a beneficial week in Calgary Foothills hospital. His condition is improving and he has even had a few headache-free days. He needs to stay a little longer and we pray for God’s continued healing and sustaining grace.

A big Thank-you to Harriet Luymes for organizing the Christmas Program last Sunday afternoon. It was nice to see young and old contribute to the celebration of our Saviour's birth.

Thanks Harriet!

Thank you to Bethel Members for the generous cash gift to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We have a few ideas already of what we would like to purchase with it. Also thank you for the beautiful flowers! John and Mar-Deb

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Tony & Henny Middag, Ann Vander Wal, Tilly Biel and Lea Dykstra

Remember our missionaries around the world.

The Outreach and Fellowship MLT’s would like to invite the congregation to come out and go Christmas Carolling in our neighbourhood this afternoon at 4 p.m. till 5:30 p.m. A potluck supper will be served at 5:30 p.m. If you are planning to join in for the dinner please bring a dinner and dessert item to share. Church Snow Shovellers:

The General Administration LT is looking for someone to shovel now here at the church this winter. The job involves keeping the sidewalks on the south, east & north side of the church and the steps at all the entries clear of snow & ice. This is a paid position and could be a nice before & after school job for some of the youth of the church. For more information, please contact Hans Spelt at 403-782-6039.

Denominational News

For many years, we have kept you in touch with the prayer needs of the ministries through a brochure called the Prayer Guide. Every month, we send thousand of these little brochures to churches like yours all across North America. But times change, and the Prayer Guide is changing too. Starting in January 2011, we will end production of the printed Prayer Guide. Instead, we will post the prayer requests online. You will find the Prayer Guide at www.crcna.org/prayer. If you don’t have Internet access, please contact Cindy or Dana at the church to print you a copy.

The Persecuted Church

Indonesia

Seven house churches were forcibly closed down in West Java, Indonesia, due to local Muslims' objections to the buildings being used for "illegal church meetings." On December 12th, between 200 and 300 Muslim militants gathered outside seven houses and performed sudden inspections of the buildings. The militants said the buildings could not be used for Christian worship services and told the congregation to meet elsewhere. The police high commissioner adjutant denied the news, saying the Muslim fundamentalists raided some churches. The security troops of Bandung city were following up on that report by sealing the seven house churches. The owners of the houses were told they could remain in their homes but were forbidden from opening their homes for Christian worship services. Ask God to use this ordeal to strengthen the members of this church. Pray that they will demonstrate Christ's love to those who oppose them and that their faith will be a light which helps lead others to the Lord. Pray that Indonesian Christians suffering for Christ will keep their eyes on Jesus, persevere in their faith and not grow weary or lose heart (Hebrews 10:32-39; 12:1-3).
