Our Church Family

Congratulations to Hans Spelt with the celebration of his 71st birthday on February 25th. May you be blessed with a special day with family and friends.

You are invited to attend the wedding ceremony of Valerie Luymes and Luuk VanAken on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Ponoka Sonrise Church.

We would like to send a HUGE THANK YOU to all who attended the Sweetheart Dinner last week Friday. We hope you had a great time! We did! Thanks to all the servers & cooks, thanks to all who donated and prepared food, thanks to all who loaned decorations, and thanks to all who helped with the clean-up. It made for a great fundraiser and we raised over $3,000.00! Your support of the Mexico Mission Trip is so greatly appreciated!

Hello Bethel CRC! Just a quick note for you as next week's offering is towards my ministry with YWAM in Vancouver. This week I started my new role with the YWAM Project Funding Office (PFO), the office that processes donations from Canadian donors for hundreds of YWAM missionaries around the world. It's an essential part of YWAM's ministry worldwide. So far it is going really well and I'm quite enjoying it! That's my 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. activity... but outside of that, I'm still very active in women's hockey here in the city. I coach a team of 14-17 year old girls 3-4 times per week, I'm still playing for the Killarney Knights women's team 1-2 times per week, plus I am "on-call" for a recreational women's team who often needs extra players. As you know, the world of hockey is my mission field and lately I've been brainstorming more tangible ways I can be a part of what God wants to do in my team mates' lives, and in the lives of the girls I coach. There are too many things to state here, but I'll write another update soon. Thanks for your continued support and for being part of my life and ministry! - Krista Prins, YWAM

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Tony & Henny Middag, Ann Vander Wal,

Tilly Biel and Lea Dykstra

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Next Sunday, February 27th

We are privileged to witness the sacrament of baptism as John and Angela deRegt bring Lincoln and receive the sign of God’s covenant love in Jesus. In the evening we consider the “Atonement – How Jesus saves us.” Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

Nomination of Office Bearers

Once again it is time to consider nominations of office bearers. This year we have two elders completing their terms, two youth elders and two deacons. On the 6th of March, the congregation will be invited to nominate persons for the various offices. Please consider this matter over the next two weeks. On March 6th, nomination forms will be distributed to the church membership, and they will also be collected on that day. The following people served last term and therefore are ineligible: Rod Duckett, Henry Geldof, Peter Prins, Herman Scholing Jr. and Phil Tenbrinke. We thank those that are completing their terms: Gord Bos, Curt Dowling, Ray Merkus, Ken Tenbrinke, Frank Van Iperen and Donald Wildeboer. As a council, we value the input of the congregation. Please prayerfully consider whom you might nominate.

Winter Family Fun Fest

On February 21st, Family Day, the Fellowship Ministry Leadership Team is hosting our annual Fun Fest. It will be held at the Lacombe Christian School again. Bring your skates, hockey sticks, sleds and we will begin at 11:00 a.m. We will serve lunch in the Fellowship Hall afterwards.

Picture Directory

If you would like an updated picture of your family in the directory, we will be taking pictures after church today, February 20th. Pictures will be taken in the sanctuary. From the Fellowship MLT.

Bethel Newsletter

Believe it or not, we are just about ready to put together our March 2011 Newsletter. Please take the time to find a story, write a story or poem, or write a note about the ministry you are involved in. Then send it off to our newsletter crew. We would love to have as much congregation input as you are willing to give us. We would like to receive your contributions no later than March 1st. Thanks so much. We look forward to hearing from you and putting together an informative fun newsletter. Harriet Luymes, Ann Wildeboer and Anita Geldof.

The Outreach MLT Committee

Would like to support the Big Brothers Big Sisters bowling fundraiser which takes place at Ambassador Lanes in Lacombe on Saturday or Sunday, March 12 or 13, 2011. We are looking at this as an outreach from our church to the community to show our support and to hopefully open the doors to our church and its programs for the youth in Lacombe (and hopefully their parents). We are looking for bowlers of all ages to participate. If you would like to join a bowling team or financially sponsor our team, please contact Jen Zuidhof at (403) 782-6672 or Jeanne Ebens at (403) 782-7872 or (403) 350-6129 by March 1, 2011.

The Persecuted Church

Said Musa, who was imprisoned for converting from Islam to Christianity, is reportedly facing execution. A 15-year employee of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Kabul, Afghanistan, Said, 45, was arrested on May 31, 2010, after a television station in Kabul broadcast images that allegedly showed Western Christians baptizing Afghans. Since his arrest, he has remained in the Kabul Detention Center, where he has reportedly suffered sexual assault and torture and been denied access to a lawyer. In the second week of February, an Afghan judge reportedly informed Said that he would be hanged within days if he did not renounce his faith in Christ and reconvert to Islam. Pray for God's enduring comfort and peace for Said in prison. Pray that, even in chains, he will exalt and praise his Lord, a God of compassion, justice and truth. Pray for his release. Pray also for Said's wife and six children, who fled to Pakistan after his arrest, that they, too, will continue to find strength in Christ.
