Our Church Family

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

This past week in Edmonton Eleanor’s youngest brother Gerald Nanninga was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. He was 65. Gerald’s wife is a sister of Ella Land. The funeral is planned for Monday. May God be near to you and the family as you grieve the sudden loss of a dear one.

Congratulations to Ray Merkus with his 73rd birthday this coming Tuesday, Dorothy Meindersma with her 78th birthday this coming Wednesday and Rena De Ruiter with her 83rd birthday this coming Thursday. May God bless each of you with a special day of celebration and in the coming year.

Bethel Prayer Chain

Congregation members have asked and as part of being a caring community Pastor Mike would like to re-establish a prayer chain in our church. However, we are taking a slightly different approach. We can use Google Groups instead of using a phone chain to pass along prayer requests. For those who are not aware, Google Groups allows an individual to send a message to the account, which will forward this message to all the members of the group, instead of having to contact everyone separately. A Google Group account has been set up for Bethel and now is in need of people to join. The group is called “Bethel Prayer Chain” and the email is bethelprayergroup@googlegroups.com. If you would like to be part of the prayer chain, please send me an email (to v.l.bouwman@hotmail.com) and I can add you as a member. Or, if you would prefer to add yourself, you can go to Google Groups and search for our group, Bethel Prayer Chain, and join yourself. We hope to use this group to increase the ability of members to encourage and care for each through prayer. Thank you, Veronica Bouwman

Bethel Safe Church Policy:

TODAY is the third Sunday in a month long campaign to start the process of a mass sign up for police checks. You will be filling out a Lacombe Police Service Criminal Record Check form and leaving a copy of your driver’s license or any piece of photo id. Your Safe Church Volunteer Profile form should be dropped off at the same time. This was given to you in advance to fill out a couple of weeks ago. I will be set up downstairs in the council and photo copy rooms for the whole month of June. Anyone involved with Council, Ministry Leadership Teams, Nursery, Youth leaders, GEMS, Cadets, Sunday School/Children in Worship, Coffee Break/Story Hour and Nursery, Friendship, Ushers and Hall Monitors and Circle of Friends are required to go through this process so that we as a church are covered in our insurance policies. All information will be compiled here at the church and when everyone has submitted all forms, I will then take all required paper work to the police station for processing. If you have any questions about the process or the forms please contact me. Dana van Gyssel

The Persecuted Church

Sudan

Christians request continued prayer as the North and South prepare to separate on July 9th in accordance with a referendum held in January. Alarming developments include the North's intention to implement Shariah law, more strictly, potentially reducing the limited freedoms given to Christians and other non-Muslims. There is also fear that, with many Christians fleeing the South, the remaining believers will be especially vulnerable to pressure and attacks. Additionally, the parameters of the North-South border remain hotly disputed at several points. In the province of Abyei, a referendum has been delayed and attempts to assert military control have erupted in violence in recent months. There have also been violent clashes in other provinces and increased violence in the western region of Darfur. Thousands of people have been displaced and forced to flee to the South in the wake of the violence. Pray the rights of all Christians in Sudan will be respected. Pray for special guidance for Church leaders as they adapt to the changes posed by operating under two legal systems. Pray the two governments will rule justly for the benefit of all citizens. Pray the peace of the Lord will reign throughout Sudan and that violence will cease.
