Our Church Family

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Betty Scholing's father, Mr. Jake DeSchiffart passed away from cancer on Monday. He was 79 years old. The funeral was on Saturday here in our church. Please keep Betty and Herman and the family in your prayers during this time of sadness.

Congratulations to Audrey Noordhof with the celebration of her 82nd birthday on Friday, July 1st. May you be blessed with a special day with your family and friends.

We would like to thank the congregation for the beautiful planter and money we received on the occasion of our 25th anniversary. We have been truly blessed to mark this occasion and thank God for this church community. Liz and Henry Stad

Thank you to Frank & Debby van Iperen for the lovely flower pots in the back courtyard and to Cindy Prins for the blooms at the front of the church. We appreciate the addition of the seasonal beauty for our church.

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Tony & Henny Middag, Ann Vander Wal,

Tilly Biel and Lea Dykstra

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Next Sunday, July 3rd

We read the story of Simeon from Luke 2:25-35 and Galatians 5:22-23 and we invite the Holy Spirit of Pentecost to increase the fruit of JOY in our lives. In the evening we read Ecclesiastes 9 and declare our Christian Hope in a world of despair. Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

Bethel Safe Church Policy:

TODAY is the fourth and LAST Sunday in a month long campaign to start the process of a mass sign up for police checks. You will be filling out a Lacombe Police Service Criminal Record Check form and leaving a copy of your driver’s license or any piece of photo id. Your Safe Church Volunteer Profile form should be dropped off at the same time. This was given to you in advance to fill out a couple of weeks ago. I will be set up downstairs in the council and photo copy rooms. Anyone involved with Council, Ministry Leadership Teams, Nursery, Youth leaders, GEMS, Cadets, Sunday School/Children in Worship, Coffee Break/Story Hour and Nursery, Friendship, Ushers and Hall Monitors and Circle of Friends are required to go through this process so that we as a church are covered in our insurance policies. All information will be compiled here at the church and when everyone has submitted all forms, I will then take all the required paper work to the police station for processing. If you have any questions about the process or the forms please contact me. Dana van Gyssel

Bethel Prayer Chain:

Congregation members have asked and as part of being a caring community, Pastor Mike would like to re-establish a prayer chain in our church. However, we are taking a slightly different approach. We can use Google Groups instead of using a phone chain to pass along prayer requests. For those who are not aware, Google Groups allows an individual to send a message to the account, which will forward this message to all the members of the group, instead of having to contact everyone separately. A Google Group account has been set up for Bethel and now is in need of people to join. The group is called “Bethel Prayer Chain” and the email is bethelprayergroup@googlegroups.com. The group can be accessed from our church website as well. If you would like to be added to the prayer chain, please send me an email (to v.l.bouwman@hotmail.com) and I can add you as a member. Or, if you would prefer to add yourself, you can go directly to the Bethel website and look for the link in the upper left hand corner. We hope to use this group to increase the ability of members to encourage and care for each through prayer. Thank you, Veronica Bouwman

Bethel Newsletter

Summer is here! It’s time for another newsletter. We look forward to the end of school and summer holidays, long warm days of relaxation, and special vacations. We on the newsletter team look forward to putting together another informative fun to read newsletter. But we need your help. We would love to have your input. Please feel free to write us something about your adventures, life experiences, favourite holidays and camping trips. What made them so special? We look forward to hearing from you, the readers. Please have your contributions to either Harriet Luymes, Ann Wildeboer or Anita Geldof by today, Sunday, June 26th.

Music Jam Night:

Beginning this Wednesday night from 7:30 until 9:00 p.m. there will be a music jam time in the church. The goal is to have a night every week in which people can get together to sing and play, enjoying music and fellowship. We will be playing songs with good wholesome lyrics – worship, Christian bands, and secular bands. Bring ideas for songs. An instrument is not at all necessary – singers are welcome, and some people have extra instruments which may be shared. Come to enjoy some music, play or learn an instrument, or sing along. Contact Paul Vandyk at 403-782-0744 for more information.

Church Picnic!

It will be on July 1st right behind our church. We will be playing “Minute to Win it”. Please bring lawn chairs and a salad and dessert to share. Coffee will be ready at 11:00 am. We will eat at noon. For more information, talk to a Fellowship MLT member

Volunteers Needed:

Lacombe Days is coming up next month (July 14-17) and we are starting some of the planning that is needed for our church’s involvement. The biggest thing that we are working out the details for right now is our parade float. The parade is on Saturday, July 16th, starting at 10 a.m. On Sunday, July 17th at 11:00 a.m. we will participate in the combined service in the park with the other churches in Lacombe. There will be a Half Marathon on Sunday prior to the church service. We are in need of a number of volunteers to make these events possible: people to be on the float, to walk beside it handing out candy, or helping decorate, people to collect the offering at the church service, and some people to volunteer their time to be course marshals for the marathon. If you are interested in helping with any of these things, please contact me at the church at 403-782-6400 (leave a message if we are not in) or email me at v.l.bouwman@hotmail.com and I can give you further details. Thank you, Veronica Bouwman.

Attention Cadets and your Parents:

There will be a short meeting for all the Cadets and parents who are going to the Camporee in Michigan this summer. It will be held in the council room on July 3, 2011 at 12:30pm.

The Cadets are wondering if there is anyone out there who has an enclosed watertight trailer not being used, that they can borrow during the summer months to transport the Cadet tent, poles etc. to places where the tent is rented out. Our current trailer is not in the best shape any more. If you can help us out please contact Grant Zuidhof at 403-782-4002.

Rehoboth Camp

Do you have a week available this summer? Looking for something to do? Rehoboth Camp is looking for you!! Camp Rehoboth provides a one-week camp experience for people with disabilities. As well as a lot of fun activities, part of this experience is teaching them from the Bible and sharing the love of Jesus with them. It is a life-changing and faith-building week for our volunteers as well. Our camper spots are filled, but our volunteer list still has many openings. We do not want to disappoint our campers by not allowing them to attend because we do not have enough volunteers. Please prayerfully consider joining us for one of the following weeks:

The Rehoboth Camp Ministry is in full swing and we are looking for volunteers to fill in the roster.

· Adult 1 – July 2 – 8 – 8 more counsellors needed

· Adult 2 – July 9 -15 – 12 more counsellors needed

· Independent Week – July 16 – 22 – 12 more counsellors needed (volunteers must be at least 18 years or older…16 + will be counsellor-in-training)

The Persecuted Church

A mission training school was recently attacked by a mob of Muslims following a prayer meeting. Approximately 85 Muslims rushed into the school and raided each class and dorm room, removing pictures of Jesus. They told the staff that the school must be closed. No students were on the premises, as school was not in session that day. Several police officers and soldiers accompanied the mob from a nearby military base and neighbours did not recognize them as locals. The school, which was established in 1999 with the purpose of training evangelists in Indonesia, has reportedly always maintained a good relationship with its neighbours. At last report, mission leaders said that they were attempting to follow up on the incident in the hopes of helping to prevent further violence. The leaders also urged Indonesian Christians not to retaliate, but to remain calm and to pray. Pray that God will touch the hearts of the attackers, leading them to repent and recognize Christ as Lord. Pray that a spirit of trust and peace will govern the hearts of Indonesian Christians and guard them against fear. Pray that Christians in Indonesia will be a bold testimony of Christ's love to those around them.
