Our Church Family

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

With sadness we offer our sincere Christian condolences to Paul and Cindy Prins and Corinna and the extended family with the sudden tragic death of a dear son and brother, Ian Prins this past Tuesday. We pray for the comfort of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for the family in this time of grief. The funeral will be on Tuesday July 5 at 1:30pm here at Bethel.

We continue to pray for Henry Geldof as he awaits treatment for his very painful stomach troubles.

Congratulations to Tony Middag (81st) and Ernie Stebner (88th) as they celebrate birthdays this Thursday. May our Lord continue to bless the both of you on your special day and into your new year!

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Tony & Henny Middag, Ann Vander Wal,

Tilly Biel and Lea Dykstra

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Next Sunday, July 10th

We welcome Pastor Henry Wildeboer, minister emeritus from ClearView CRC in Oakville, Ontario, to lead us in worship in the morning service. In the evening we read from Genesis 2:1-15 and confess our place as keepers of God’s creation. Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

Attention Cadets and your Parents:

There will be a short meeting for all the Cadets and parents who are going to the Camporee in Michigan this summer. It will be held in the council room TODAY at 12:30pm.

The Cadets are wondering if there is anyone out there who has an enclosed watertight trailer not being used, that they can borrow during the summer months to transport the Cadet tent, poles etc. to places where the tent is rented out. Our current trailer is not in the best shape any more. If you can help us out please contact Grant Zuidhof at 403-782-4002.

Bethel Safe Church:

I would like to offer a huge thank you to those who took the time to sign out a Police Criminal Check over the past month. In total I have received 98 applicants. This is a wonderful amount, but there are at least 50 others out there who still need to submit an application. The ones that I do have will be delivered for processing. For the rest I will be contacting you over the summer so that we are ready to go for the new season in the fall. Any one with questions or comments please don’t hesitate to contact me. Dana van Gyssel

Volunteers Still Needed:

Lacombe Days is coming up next month (July 14-17) and we are starting some of the planning that is needed for our church’s involvement. The biggest thing that we are working out the details for right now is our parade float. The parade is on Saturday, July 16th, starting at 10 a.m. On Sunday, July 17th at 11:00 a.m. we will participate in the combined service in the park with the other churches in Lacombe. There will be a Half Marathon on Sunday prior to the church service. We are in need of a number of volunteers to make these events possible: people to be on the float, to walk beside it handing out candy, or helping decorate, people to collect the offering at the church service, and some people to volunteer their time to be course marshals for the marathon. If you are interested in helping with any of these things, please contact me at the church at 403-782-6400 (leave a message if we are not in) or email me at v.l.bouwman@hotmail.com and I can give you further details. Thank you, Veronica Bouwman.

Bethel Prayer Chain:

For the past couple of weeks, we have been mentioning our new prayer chain system that has been set up. We are now using Google Groups to send out prayer requests. For those who are not aware, Google Groups allows an individual to send a message to the account, which will forward this message to all the members of the group, instead of having to contact everyone separately. A Google Group account has been set up for Bethel and now is in need of people to join. The group is called “Bethel Prayer Chain” and the email is bethelprayergroup@googlegroups.com. The group can be accessed from our church website. However, there may be those in our congregation who do not have internet or email access. If this is the case and you would still like to be part of the prayer chain, please call me (782-4273) and I will arrange for someone who is connected to the emails to call you when a new prayer request comes in. Hopefully this will allow access to the prayer chain for all those who would like to be part of it. Thank you, Veronica

Bethel Youth News

Attention All Bethel Youth and Youth Leaders:

The Bethel Tuesday Nite Youth leaders would like to invite you (Junior youth to Young Adults) to our monthly prayer meeting this coming week. With the sudden passing of Ian Prins this is an opportunity for you to be with others who have the same thoughts and prayer concerns as you. We will gather in the council room with the date and time to be announced.

Rehoboth Camp

Do you have a week available this summer? Looking for something to do? Rehoboth Camp is looking for you!! Camp Rehoboth provides a one-week camp experience for people with disabilities. As well as a lot of fun activities, part of this experience is teaching them from the Bible and sharing the love of Jesus with them. It is a life-changing and faith-building week for our volunteers as well. Our camper spots are filled, but our volunteer list still has many openings. We do not want to disappoint our campers by not allowing them to attend because we do not have enough volunteers. Please prayerfully consider joining us for one of the following weeks:

The Rehoboth Camp Ministry is in full swing and we are looking for volunteers to fill in the roster.

· Adult 1 – July 2 – 8 – 8 more counsellors needed

· Adult 2 – July 9 -15 – 12 more counsellors needed

· Independent Week – July 16 – 22 – 12 more counsellors needed (volunteers must be at least 18 years or older…16 + will be counsellor-in-training)

Please fill out the volunteer application form found on the Rehoboth website - http://www.rehoboth.ab.ca/services.html - call Linda Rosendal – 780-968-8483 for more information.

Denominational News

Thank you Canada! The Christian Reformed World Relief Committee (CRWRC) would like to thank Canada for all their support over the past year. Matching funds from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), combined with contributions from other Canadian Foodgrains Bank members, enabled us to do $10.5 million in disaster aid programming this year. In addition, when CIDA denied our request for funding for community development programs, Canadians stepped up and helped us fill the gap through our Harvest Hope campaign. We currently have less than $5,000 to go to meet our $825,000 Harvest Hope goal. Thank you!

The Persecuted Church

Friends and family of a detained Iranian Christian are calling for clarification of his case more than five months after he was sent to Tehran's notoriously brutal Evin prison. Farshid Fathi (32) was one of several believers detained by government security officials in December 2010 during a series of raids on Christians' homes in Tehran . He has endured months of solitary confinement even though no court orders or instructions have been issued in his case. Interrogators have reportedly used psychological torture in attempts to force Farshid to reveal details of Christian contacts. Farshid's wife and two young children have been allowed to speak to him only once a week. Farshid's family was forced to sell his father-in-law's home in order to survive financially and have not been able to pay the bail to secure his release. Pray that God will strengthen and console Farshid as he suffers for his faith. Pray that his family will trust in the Lord for provision and comfort. Pray that the steadfast faith of Iranian believers will encourage other Christians in the country who are suffering persecution. Pray that the Word of the Lord will continue to go forth in Iran and that many will come to embrace Him as Lord.
