Our Church Family

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Lea Dykstra was moved from the Ponoka Hospital to the adjacent Northcott Care Center (4209 - 48 Ave). She is doing well with the added care and we are thankful along with the family that there was room for her there.

Congratulations to Els Ebens with the celebration of her 85th birthday on February 2nd. May you feel God near you as you celebrate with your family & friends.

God is good, he is gracious and merciful. Mason Wildeboer, infant son of Dan and Nicole, is responding well to treatments and we thank God for his gracious care through the work of the medical staff in Edmonton.

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Tony & Henny Middag, Albert & Tilly Biel,

Ann Vander Wal and Lea Dykstra.

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Open House

The congregation is invited to an open house on Saturday, February 4th from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm in the church fellowship hall to celebrate Els Ebens’ 85th birthday.

The Cadets and their leaders would like to thank everyone who donated bottles and batteries to this year’s fundraiser. We had lots of help sorting them out. We raised $ 1450.00.

Next Sunday, February 5th

We see Jesus patiently working with Simon Peter the impetuous disciple and we realize Jesus works patiently with us. In our evening service we see “The Dragon and the Woman” in Revelation 12 as it dramatizes the story of Israel giving birth to God’s son and Satan seeking to kill him. Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

Profession of Faith:

We will be starting a profession of faith class in February for anyone interested in making public confession of their faith and becoming a full member of the church. Please talk to Pastor Mike for details.

February Newsletter:

Here we go again. The next month is coming quickly and the newsletter team is starting work on the next issue. February is heart month. Harriet talked about different ideas for contributions in the January ‘looking ahead’ article. We look forward to participation from the congregation. Please have your contributions in to the team or in the mail box by noon on Monday, January 30th. The newsletter will be in your mailboxes on Sunday, February 5th. Ann Wildeboer - awildeboer@xplornet.com, Harriet Luymes - haraug@gmail.com, and Anita Geldof - ahgeldof@shaw.ca.

Contact Barb Vandyk if you have questions. *Due to cancellation of Coffee Break this past week, the study schedule has been shifted.

Sensitive Topics Affecting Today’s Young People

Growing up, you didn’t have the Internet, your friends didn’t cut themselves and text messaging wasn’t even on the radar. How can we help guide our children to live Godly lives amidst this kind of cultural climate? Brett Ullman discusses, from a parent’s perspective, sensitive topics affecting today’s young people including cutting, suicide, substance abuse, sex and violence.

Bringing hope and an awareness to today’s parents, Brett sheds light on how with increased knowledge of youth trends, adults can be more discerning in their parenting strategies and better able to anticipate the needs of their children as they navigate the often challenging waters of adolescence. Brett Ullman will be at Bethel CRC, Edmonton, 14204 - 25 St., on Thursday evening February 2nd beginning at 7:30 p.m. to discuss these very topics. Cost for this event is a free will donation to help cover expenses. If you have any questions, please contact Ryan Pedde, Youth Pastor or Bethel CRC at 780-476-3762 or Ron deVries Classis Youth Ministry Consultant at 780-619-6566

The Persecuted Church

Saudi Arabia

35 Christian Ethiopian men and women were arrested after holding a prayer meeting at a private home in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on December 15th. They have been imprisoned without trial and have not been told when or if they will be released. Although officially the authorities are saying the arrest was due to "improper mixing of genders", one of the employers of the imprisoned Christians was initially told by officials that the arrests were due to holding Christian meetings. The prisoners themselves are also convinced that they were arrested for holding the prayer meeting and point out that the questioning they have faced under interrogation confirms this. Pray for these brothers and sisters in Christ who have been arrested simply for gathering together to pray.
