Our Church Family

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Congratulations to Tony Middag and Ernie Stebner as they celebrate their birthdays this Saturday. To each of you may our Lord continue to bless you in the new year!

Do remember our seniors and shut ins in prayer: Albert & Tilly Biel, Lea Dykstra, Tony & Henny Middag, Lena Spelt, Grace Vander Veen and Ann Vander Wal.

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Next Sunday, July 8th

We confront a wrong view of God that feels God is always busy and so we are pushed harder in an already exceptionally hectic world. In the evening we begin a series of messages on the Canons of Dordt as they very clearly and in a most helpful way express five basic biblical truths at the center of our Faith. Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

Church Picnic:

The Fellowship Team is hosting our annual picnic tomorrow. It will be at the school grounds across from our church parking lot. We will try to eat lunch right at noon or soon after so come any time before that and please bring a salad and a dessert to share. Also bring plates, cutlery, lawn chairs and any toys you would like. There will be new games to try and it will be sure to be a fun time! For more information, please talk to Debby, Joan, Anita, Marcella, Janneke or Pauline.

Full Council

Met and selected the new Executive for the year. Our Chairman is Elder Peter Prins, Vice chairman is Elder Gerald Noort. Elder Donald Wildeboer remains in the Clerk position. Deacon Terry Vandenborn remains as Council treasurer. Youth Elder Andrew Tenbrinke is the general adjunct of the Executive. These office bearers serve on the administrative side of Council’s work. The Executive meets once a month to oversee the general business of the church between the quarterly Full Council meetings. The six pastoral elders are Art Hazelhoff, Henry Geldof, Herman Scholing, John van Gyssel, Paul Prins, and Wilf Ebens. They are organizing the districts again and the new lists will be out shortly. If you have a concern you can contact them.

Seniors

Did you know a Large print edition of the bulletin is available? If you have trouble reading the regular bulletin you can request a Large print copy by contacting Cindy or Dana at 403-782-6400 (leave a message if we are not in) or emailing us at bchurch2@telus.net.

Baking Needed! Circle of Friends

Would like to have a supply of baking. We need squares, cupcakes, muffins, tarts, cookies, cakes, loafs. The idea is to have serving size portions that can be wrapped. This would take care of desserts for a long time. We now have a freezer in the church to keep them fresh. Items can be brought to the kitchen. Any questions ask Hilda Nowochin or Barb Vandyk. Thank you!

Bridal Shower:

There will be a bridal shower for Ingrid Kleinlugtenveld – bride-to-be of Dan Luymes on Monday, July 9th here at Bethel. Come join us at 7:30 p.m. for an evening of celebration and fellowship. This will be a gift-card shower, allowing Dan and Ingrid to enjoy a variety of shops and restaurants. Bring a gift card for your favourite store, whether clothing or house wares or groceries or music or books or restaurant – the choices are almost endless. We look forward to seeing you there. Please feel free to bring a snack to share with the group. If you have any questions, please contact Anita Geldof

Urgent Prayer Request from CRWRC

For the last six months Boko Haram terrorists have attacked churches in Nigeria with car bombs, smaller explosive devices and gunfire. The attacks have intensified this month with multiple attacks on three consecutive Sundays. Reprisal attacks by Christian youths against Muslims have also intensified and created a volatile situation in the country. Boko Haram is threatening more attacks this weekend. Please continue to pray for peace in Nigeria and protection for its people, including CRC personnel serving there.

Persecuted Church

Syria

Christians in Syria who share their faith have always faced danger, but the escalating civil war is making evangelistic efforts even more dangerous. Several evangelists who work with VOM have lost family members. "In some cases, people were killed because of their Christian identity," said VOM's program officer for the region. "We are checking into how we can be of assistance to those who have been injured for their faith, including one whose face was mutilated as a warning to other Christians." The war has also displaced many Christians. As Christians flee the fighting and leave their houses behind, Muslims and members of the rebel groups take possession of them. In addition, one church was closed by the government in recent months, and other churches remain under threat of closure. Pray for peace and for the protection of Syrian believers. Pray that Syrian believers will rest in the knowledge that the Good Shepherd walks with them through this difficult time (Psalm 23). Pray that Christians will show Christ-like love to their neighbours, even those who persecute them.
