Our Church Family

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Our Family of the Week is Clarence and Doreen Kits. Please keep them in your daily prayers.

Congratulations to Walter Land with the celebration of his birthday on March 11th and Clarence Kits with his birthday on March 15th. May God bless you both with a special day and in the year to come.

Today in honor of the John and Ria Jager 60th wedding anniversary the family will be serving cake.

Dear members and friends of Bethel: A note of gratitude to all for your prayers, visits, food etc, during our illness, hospital stay and at home. We are grateful for recovery, though slow. We appreciate your thoughtfulness. May God bless you all. Lawrence and Annette Sackmann

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

From the Deacons:

Lacombe Christian School has lately had an increased demand for Tuition Relief. As we will be having an offering today for this, we ask that you please consider supporting this important cause.

The Spring Congregational Meeting

Will be held this coming Thursday, March 14th at 7:30 p.m. All Ministry Leadership Teams will give an annual report at this meeting. All other church groups, Bible studies & clubs are encouraged to submit a report to the April Newsletter.

Next Sunday, March 17th

We continue in Lent remembering the suffering of our Lord Jesus as he makes his way to the cross. We read from Mark 15:1-15 where Pilate an earthly ruler is confronted by the King of Kings. In the evening we read Romans 10 as it gives us “Straight talk about our responsibility.” Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

Summer Seminary Student

We offer prayers for the Summer Seminary Student application process. This coming week on March 12th students submit their top three choices. On March 19th placements are proposed to the churches. On March 26th students are notified of finalized placements and they contact the church.

Classis Alberta North Report:

The 31 churches of Classis Alberta North met in regular session this past Wednesday and Thursday at Trinity CRC in Edmonton. Rev Bruce Gritter served as chairman. Pastor Mike and Elder Wayne Bouwman represented Bethel. These are some highlights:

  • Examined Commissioned Pastor Luke Seinen in his role as Youth Pastor at The River CRC. A sermon evaluation was not required as his work does not include preaching.
  • Examined Commissioned Pastor Anne Vanderhoek in her role as “Pastor of Missional and Congregational Life” at Mosaic House church plant with Pastor Victor Ko. A sermon evaluation was included as she will be preaching on a regular basis.
  • The treasurer reported that our Classis finances are good. Thanked faithful churches.
  • Northern Alberta Deaconal Conference (NADC) reported on the need to continue Henry Bosch’s work. An evaluation of his position affirmed the value of the work and someone will be hired by Classis.
  • Ben Vandezande - the new interim Director of Canadian Ministries reported on the work of the CRC in Canada. Rev Neil deKoning also reported on the C3 conference that met in January to discuss the distinctly Canadian side of the work of the CRC in North America and how we can best structure our bi-national denomination.
  • Overtures to Synod were received from Ebenezer Leduc, Edmonton First, New Life Red Deer and Edmonton West End asking Synod to approve the report to Synod of the “Task force on Deacons” that recommends a more central role for the deacons at the Synodical and Classical levels. At this time deacons are not present at Classis or Synod meetings.
  • Aaron Au shared with Classis exciting plans for the next Edmonton Church Plant in the Alberta Avenue area. The Au’s have purchased a house in the area that is suitable for them and for holding initial worship gatherings.
  • Delegates to Synod were elected. Our own Elder Wayne Bouwman was elected as the First Elder Delegate and University of Alberta Chaplain Rick Van Mannen (who is an Elder in his church) was elected Second Elder Delegate. The Minister delegates are Pastor Victor Ko from MosiacHouse Community church plant in Edmonton and Pastor Art Verboon from Maranatha Edmonton. Synod meets from June 7-12, 2013 in Grand Rapids MI.

On February 22nd and 23rd two different Christian villages were attacked by the militant Muslim group Boko Haram. In both cases villagers had gathered to mourn the loss of a family/community member. After the attacks a total of 16 people were killed (including a nursing mother and her baby) and many others wounded. Pray for these villages where many families have unexpectedly lost loved ones, while others are recovering from their wounds and from the shock after these barbaric attacks. May these believers be comforted by the hope Christians have. Pray for wisdom; may the Lord give them power and courage not to take revenge. Pray also that the hearts of the attackers will be touched by God’s transforming love.
