OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Our family of the week is Scott and Irene Fraser. Please keep them in your daily prayers.

Andy & Linda Horlings have returned to Nigeria after attending their daughter Rachel’s memorial service in Syracuse, New York. The three day weekend in Ghana that they had planned to spend with Rachel turned into a three week journey no one could have imagined. Andy and Linda convey their profound gratitude for the prayers and support they have experienced through these weeks.

Congratulations to Agnes Prins with the celebration of her 80th birthday yesterday and to Joanne van Gyssel as she celebrates her birthday on Wednesday and to Gerry Doornenbal as he celebrates on Thursday. To each of you we wish you a very blessed day and may our Lord continue to bless you into your new year!

Phone numbers for Pastor Mike and BarbPastor Mike’s home number is now his cell number 403-782-0744 and so is accessible by Text Message. Barb now has her own cell number 403-550-3318.

Bethel News

Next Sunday, April 21st

We have the privilege of celebrating the Lord’s Supper. We read from 1 Peter 2:1-12 as it guides us in living out our faith in the living Lord Jesus.

In the evening

We begin “WE: the Epic Journey.” It is a series of 10 worship events that we will use once every 6 weeks as our evening service for the next year. The time will be from 5 to 6: 30 p.m. The events move through the Bible from Creation to the Fall into sin, to the Redeeming work of God through Israel, Jesus and the church. The first event will focus on Creation. Each event includes a meal that ties into the theme. For next Sunday evening people are asked to “Create” a tasty dish to share in a Potluck meal. Dessert will be provided. After eating together we move into our worship time with songs, prayers, the message & discussion. Each table will be asked to draw a creation day so the children can share their love of creation as well. There will be nursery for those families who need it.

You will find the WE Event 1 “Creation” devotions in your mailbox today to help prepare for our time together next Sunday evening. Each WE event has 4 weeks of take home devotions around the theme.

Notes from the Council executive meeting of April 10th:

PERSECUTED CHURCH

VIETNAM:

On March 17th, Vam Ngaij Vaj,a Vietnamese church leader died in police custody. Vam was detained for "destroying the forest" while clearing brush from his field with his wife. Photographs taken soon after his death reveal bruising on his back and neck, leading witnesses to conclude he was beaten violently before his death. Many believers now living in the Central Highlands are originally from the northwest of the country, where Christian communities are subject to arbitrary arrest, beatings by police, forced or coerced eviction, and fines for converting to Christianity. Over the past two decades, they have fled the north in large numbers as a result of religious persecution. Hmong Christians are subjected to harassment and intimidation by the authorities , including destruction of property, violent physical assault and confiscation of land. May comfort rest upon Vam's family and community. Pray that those representing Vietnam's government would be mindful of the value of human life, holding those responsible for Vam's death accountable. May the rights for religious freedom be upheld.
