2013-04-21 April 21 Bulletin

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Our family of the week is Pete & Jessica Heidelberg, along with their children, Aiden, Connor, Madison & Nolan. Please keep them in your daily prayers.

We have prayed for Carina Tenbrinke and concerns about her decreased kidney function. At this time she and Andrew will be going to California for a stem cell treatment. They will be harvesting her own stem cells for the procedure. We pray that this will improve her kidney function to the point that she does not need dialysis.

We give thanks with Bill & Eleanor Wildeboer and the family that they can celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary. May our God continue to bless and keep you in his gracious care.

With gratitude to God for giving us 45 wonderful years together, we invite the congregation to join us for a piece of cake after the morning worship service. Eleanor and Bill Wildeboer

We wish to thank those of you who provided cards and prayers during the time of my mother's death. You consideration and thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated. Henry and Liz Stad

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Summer Seminary Student:

We heard back from Calvin Seminary that there were more churches requesting students than students needing summer assignments and unfortunately our church was not chosen by any of the students. At this time we are advertising locally for a College/University student in this area to help at Bethel as a Summer Ministry Coordinator for the summer. If you know of someone who is looking for summer work in ministry let them know. The vision is to maintain excellence in ministry and worship during the summer months as well as engage in outreach through a one week Vacation Bible school. Qualifications are musical skills (play the piano and lead in worship) and administrative skills to keep all of the details of weekly ministry flowing smoothly. A more detailed “Position description” is available from the secretaries at 403-782-6400 or bchurch2@telus.net .

The Education Ministry Leadership team

is looking for a Pre-School Sunday school Coordinator for the 2013-2014 education year. For more information or to volunteer, please contact any of the following members of EMLT, Laura Duckett, Chelsea Bos, Gerald Noort or Jen Zuidhof.

May – Mother’s Day – more spring, getting in the mood for summer. We look forward to hearing from you and receiving some contributions. Thank you to all those who contributed last month. It was great to receive the stories from you. A note – there was a story about Jantje Prins. This was an aunt to Helena Kits and Dorothy Meindersma. (Sorry for forgetting that note for your information.) Harriet Luymes and Anita Geldof look forward to putting together the newsletter each month. Perhaps your ministry has ended for the year and you can send us a wrap up note. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

Hi-Way Cleanup:

May 4th is the scheduled day for the annual 4H Hi-Way Cleanup. Bethel Youth uses this great fundraiser to offset costs for YC and Inspire weekends. We also support Bethel Youth in full time missions work and new this year is also planning on helping future Mexico Mission Trip families. We can do this only with the help of our congregation. As youth numbers have decreased we are encouraging all members of Bethel to help us out for the day; the more bodies we have the shorter the day. There will be a signup sheet in the coming weeks and start up times will be given. Thank you from the Youth Ministry Leadership Team.

Hundreds of people gathered at St. Mark's Cathedral in Cairo, on April 7th for the funeral of four Christians who were killed during an uprising of inter-religious violence. Two Muslim men had also died in the conflict. While leaving the service, the mourners were pelted with stones by a growing number of Muslim rioters. This escalated into a attack on the cathedral involving firearms, petrol bombs and tear gas. Two other Christians died and over 80 people were injured. The riot lasted five hours. Some Christians had retaliated in the conflict. Egyptian officials have arrested four Christians. Pray for God's peace to infiltrate these areas of conflict, as well as the hearts of the people involved. Ask for comfort that would keep their eyes on Jesus, persevere in their faith, and not grow weary or lose heart (Hebrews 10:32-39; 12:1-3). On behalf of all Egypt's citizens, may the Lord guide the leaders of this nation to promote true justice and equality by honoring him.
