Pease remember our church family in your daily prayers at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

We offer our Christian condolences to John and Shirley Bos with the death of John’s sister Ann TeWinkel. She passed on to her heavenly father and savior Jesus Christ at the age of 89 at the Care nursing home in Port Alberni, B.C. She is survived by her husband Johan and their two sons and their families. The funeral was yesterday. May God comfort and bless.

Ann Vander Wal is in the Lacombe hospital with a broken left arm. She fell in her room at the Lodge. She will need several weeks to recover. We pray that she not get discouraged during this time of healing.

Please pray for our missionary Martha Stad who has been in the hospital in Vanauta with severe vomiting this past week. Pray for a complete recovery so she can continue to do Gods work there building water wells for the people.

Congratulations to Bill Wildeboer with the celebration of his birthday on May 4th. May God bless you with a special celebration and in the year to come.

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Next Sunday, May 5th

we read from Romans 13 as it extends the power of our risen Lord Jesus over the role of government and explains our duty to pay taxes. It then goes further to define our obedience as “Owing Love.” In the evening we read from Romans 14 as it radically reverses our sense of who are the “The Weak and the Strong” in terms of our Christian faith. Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

From the Deacons - Operation Manna:

What happens when our church partners with Operation Manna? Today you will receive a brochure showing how your gift will impact lives across Canada. Please take some time this week to read about the community ministries providing practical help, in Jesus’ name, to people in need. Please pray for these ministries this week and for the offering that will take place next week.

The Church treasurer

will be on vacation for this Sunday. If Collection notes are needed, please place them in the collection plates and the Deacons will fill the order.

Office Bearer Elections

are scheduled for Sunday, May 5th immediately after the morning service. For the office of Elder there will be an affirmation vote to confirm Brad Lewin and Jack Oudman for the two positions available for Elder. For the office of Youth Elder Curt Dowling, Jan-Willem Rodenburg and Randall Wildeboer have accepted God's call to serve. The congregation will be asked to vote for one person to fill the single position available for Youth Elder. For the office of Deacon Cora Hoekstra, Harriet Luymes and Ann Wildeboer have accepted the call to serve. The congregation will be asked to vote for two people to fill the two positions available for Deacon.

A reminder about the Sermon Evaluation Forms:

Pastor Mike will be attending a preaching conference in Grand Rapids in July. As part of the course the congregation is asked to fill in sermon evaluation forms. Our church secretaries have placed forms in mailboxes representing a range of church members (young/old, men/women). Please take some time to fill in the form and return it to Cindy Prins by May 5th. They will mail them in to Rev. Scott Hozee who leads the conference.

WE: Event #1 – Creation.

It was great to see so many people out for the first Event (90 people). The meal and fellowship time was very meaningful as people got to know each other better. You can see the posters we made in the fellowship hall. It was good to celebrate the wonder of God’s creation. The next Event will be Sunday June 2nd.

Hi-Way Cleanup: May 4th

is the scheduled day for the annual 4H Hi-Way Cleanup. Bethel Youth uses this great fundraiser to offset costs for YC and Inspire weekends. We also support Bethel Youth in full time missions work and new this year is also planning on helping future Mexico Mission Trip families. We can do this only with the help of our congregation. As youth numbers have decreased we are encouraging all members of Bethel to help us out for the day; the more bodies we have the shorter the day. There is a signup sheet in the foyer and start up times will be given. Thank you from the Youth Ministry Leadership Team.

(Sorry for forgetting that note for your information.) Harriet Luymes and Anita Geldof look forward to putting together the newsletter each month. Perhaps your ministry has ended for the year and you can send us a wrap up note. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

Further incidences of targeted violence have taken place against Christians in northern Nigeria. On April 20th, gunmen pulled over a bus, demanding the passengers to declare their faith. The gunmen then proceeded to kill six people who had confessed they were Christians. It was also reported that militants have recently embarked upon an "Islamization campaign" in Gwoza. In this situation, residents were threatened by gunmen who were going from door to door, demanding that the family members within each household profess allegiance to Islam at gunpoint. On April 19th intensive warfare was raging in the far north between the military and the Islamist militant group, Boko Haram. At least 185 people have died and up to 2,000 homes were destroyed. The aim of Boko Haram is to create an Islamic state across northern Nigeria. Pray for God's peace and healing upon all the victims of these attacks, and for His comforting presence to be with those experiencing loss. May each of these surviving victims draw near to Him, knowing that He is their 'mighty rock and refuge' in times of trouble (Psalm 62:7). Also ask that He will bless the efforts of the Christian workers serving tirelessly in communities affected by the violence, sustaining and strengthening these faithful servants as they seek to bring His hope and restoration.
