2013-06-30 June 30 Bulletin

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Our family of the week is Ed & Cora Stol. Please keep them and their children Jason, Amanda, Nicole & Jennifer in your daily prayers.

We extend our condolences to Terry and Donna Vandenborn and the family with the death of Terry’s father this past week. He was 75 years old and had been struggling with cancer. The funeral was yesterday in Westlock. May God comfort the family in his gracious love.

In celebration of Ernie Stebner’s 90th birthday on July 7th, cake will be served with coffee after the morning service today.

Congratulations to Audrey Noordhof as she celebrates her birthday tomorrow, July 1st. We wish you a wonderful day filled with the Lord’s richest blessings.

Hello church! I returned home from New Zealand this month, and I wanted to thank you all again for supporting me during this year. I will be here in Lacombe for the summer and would love to talk if you are interested in hearing a bit about what I was doing with YWAM. Martha Stad

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Sermon Podcasts:

In case anyone misses a Sunday service, our sermon podcasts can now be heard on iTunes and on the homepage of our Bethel website at www.lacombebethel.org

Next Sunday, July 7th

we see David established as King but wondering about how his effort will advance the “Kingdom of God” and not just his own kingdom. We often need to ask the same question. Are we truly advancing the Kingdom of God or are we just building up our own lives?

Along with our Canada Day celebrations after church and in the afternoon, we will end with a worship time to close the afternoon activities. As we gather under the tent we will reflect on how God’s people are pilgrims on a journey. Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

Church Picnic: next Sunday, July 7th

We will be having our annual picnic at the Lacombe Christian School field following the morning worship service. Coffee, juice and burgers will be provided. Please bring a salad and/or dessert to share and a lawn chair. Games for all ages! We will also have a time of worship together in the afternoon. We will not have a 7:00 p.m. worship service that day. If the weather is not so nice we will have our lunch in the church. For more information please contact a Fellowship Ministry Leadership team member.

All Past and Present Council Members:

The secretaries ask that you to bring your “Council Handbook for Leaders” to the secretaries’ office (brown binders). We need to update them, so please bring them back as soon as possible.

The Worship, Hospitality & Nursery schedules

for July to September are in your church mailboxes. Please look carefully for your name on the schedules. Summer time means vacation and time away for many of our church members – please arrange for a substitute for yourself if you will be away when you are scheduled to participate in a worship service or help with greeting, coffee or the nursery. Thank you!

Lift Up Your Hearts

The CRC has just recently published a new hymnal called Lift Up Your Hearts. There is an opportunity for church members to purchase their own copy of this book if they would like. The cost will be around $20 per copy. Please contact Cindy Prins or Dana van Gyssel at 403-782-6400 or bchurch2@telus.net before July 5th to order.

Another season of Vacation Bible School

is quickly approaching! This year our theme will be SONWEST ROUNDUP where kids will know Jesus as they ride the trail through the Old Testament stories of Moses. We are planning to run the VBS from August 6-9 (Tuesday-Friday). If you are willing and able to share your gifts, talents and time this week we are in need of teachers, helpers, babysitters, kitchen, craft, music and game coordinators, as well as people to help with registration, decorating and baking. There will be signup sheets on the table in the foyer that can be returned to the Summer Ministry Coordinator mailbox. Please prayerfully consider helping out with VBS this year- we would love to see this program continue in our church! Thank you, and we look forward to another great week of VBS!

The next VBS Volunteer Meeting will be this Wednesday, July 3rd at 7:00 p.m.

Everyone who has volunteered is invited to come to learn more about what roles they are going to take and who they will be working with. Anyone who has not submitted a volunteer form, but is still interested in helping out is also invited to see if this is something they will be able to commit to. There are volunteer sheets in the foyer that can be returned to the Summer Ministry Coordinator mailbox or for more info contact Evan Scholing.

A Council Social

will be held on Tuesday, July 9th from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Andrew and Carina Tenbrinke’s home (for current and outgoing council members and their spouses.) Everyone is asked to bring lawn chairs. Elders please bring salads. Deacons please bring desserts. The meat, plates, cutlery and beverages will be provided.

All Junior Youth, Young Peoples, Young Adults and those who are “Young at Heart”

You are invited to our second event of Youth Summer games which takes place next Sunday, the 7th at 7 p.m. at the Lacombe Christian school east campus where we will be playing Baseball or Ultimate Frisbee if the attendance is too low for baseball. Refreshments will be provided and there will be a tentative schedule of the rest of the events for those who participate. For any questions contact Evan Scholing at evanscholing@gmail.com.

Youth Worship & Praise

We are looking to get more youth involved in worship ministry. We want all of our young singers and instrumentalists to come for a few evenings to play music with other young musicians. These will be low pressure events as the goal is to build experience playing worship music in a group setting and to find some team chemistry. There is a bright green sheet on the table in the foyer; if you are interested, please put your information on the sheet so that we can get an idea of how many youth are interested.

Nadia, a recent Christian convert in Tajikistan, is experiencing severe persecution at the hands of her Muslim family members. Nadia converted in 2011 and was then baptized. After her mother found out, she beat Nadia, burned her Bible, and tore her clothing. Nadia tried to run away, but her brothers found her. They shaved her head, gave her a public beating, and then locked her in the house. She ran away a second time, but they caught her again. On June 9th, her family had beaten her again, this time for hours, and forced her to say the Muslim statement of faith. After that Nadia could not be contacted by phone again as her family most likely had it disconnected. Pray for the Lord's protection upon Nadia, asking Him to direct her to a safe place of refuge and provision so she can receive necessary help and healing. May Nadia sense His loving presence with her wherever she goes, encouraging her to remain strong in the Christian faith. Please also intercede for her family members who clearly need to be delivered from spiritual darkness...and brought into the light of God's truth and salvation.
