Dear congregation, after having spent 20 years here in Lacombe and in Bethel, we have decided to move back to Calgary where several of our children and grandchildren live. It was a very difficult decision since we have really enjoyed these years here. As far as Bethel is concerned, we have found a lot of friendship and caring, especially when Ria was sick. Your prayers, your cards and the meals have meant a lot to the both of us. Our new address in Calgary will be: #314 Salem Court, 3000-51st Street, SW. Our new phone number is 403-500-7575. As we leave this week we would like to wish you all God’s richest blessings. John and Ria Jager

Remember our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Our VBS week is almost here!

We are going to have our last volunteer meeting this week Wednesday the 31stat 7:30 p.m. Everybody who has volunteered is invited to come to learn more about what roles they are going to take and who they will be working with. Anybody who has not submitted a volunteer form, but is still interested in helping out is also invited to see if this is something they will be able to commit to. It's not too late to volunteer! We would love the help of some kids from grade 5 and up to help the volunteers with crafts, food and teaching. For any questions, talk to Evan.

It is time to start pre-registering your kids for VBS! There are pre-registration forms available on the table in the foyer. Once they're filled in, these forms can be returned to the Summer Ministry Coordinator mailbox, or given to Evan. If you don't get a chance to pre-register, you can register on the opening morning of VBS.

Sermon Podcasts:

In case anyone misses a Sunday service, our sermon podcasts can now be heard on iTunes and on the homepage of our Bethel website at www.lacombebethel.org

Next Sunday, August 4th

We continue our study of the life of David as his son Absalom rebels against his father in sinful pride. In the evening we read from Proverbs 27 as it highlights the aspect of friendship in the life of the Christian. Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

Bridal Shower:

All ladies & girls are invited to a bridal shower for Veronica Bouwman on Friday, August 9th at 7:30 p.m. in the Fellowship hall. Veronica & Nick Haayema plan to be married in Leduc on September 21st. This will be a Recipe/Grocery Shower so please bring your favorite recipe & non-perishable ingredients to make the item. Everyone is asked to bring a snack to share.

Youth Summer Games:

We will be playing ultimate frisbee after the evening service today! Ultimate Frisbee is a very fun game and it is very easy to learn, so we encourage everybody to come out whether you know how to play or not. As always, refreshments will be provided. Hope to see you all there!

Young Adults

On August 3rd and 4th you are invited to join Ron deVries, Rick Abma and Wayne Bouwman at Pigeon Lake for sailing and windsurfing. Not to worry if you have never done it before, we will give lessons as well. Interested in joining please see Wayne

Psalm 16:1 Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge. A young couple who accepted Christ last month have been beaten and threatened by officials, according to a VOM worker. Local authorities hit the wife on the face with a stick and threatened to take the couple's land and home if they refuse to renounce Christianity and return to Buddhism. The wife fears further beatings, and the husband is afraid they will lose their land and have no way of supporting their family. The couple, who survive through subsistence farming, have three boys aged 10, 12 and 14. Their pastor is trying to help, but he lives 15 miles away in another village. Pray for the protection and provision of this family and that they will stand firm in the faith.
