Please remember our church family in your daily prayers at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Special note from Kirk MacNeil: We praise God for His faithfulness these past 60 years. May Bethel be blessed with the joys of that same faithfulness in the years to come.

Do remember our seniors and shut ins Albert & Tilly Biel, Klaas Boskers, Lea Dykstra, Tony Middag, Grace Spelt, Lena Spelt, Ernie Stebner, Grace Vander Veen and Ann Vander Wal in prayer.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Next Sunday, December 15th

We have the privilege of witnessing the baptism of Kesler Ann Rodenburg, infant daughter of Jan and Jolyn. In our advent series we listen to the Prophet Malachi as he prepares us for true worship of our savior. In the afternoon we have our Children’s Christmas program. Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

There will be a short practice right after the morning service on December 15th for those involved with the Children's Worship Service later that afternoon. Call Harriet or Amaris if you have any questions.

Deacons’ Christmas Luncheon:

The deacons are reminding all those invited to the Christmas Luncheon to stay after the service today. We are looking forward to having lunch and a time of fellowship together in the Fellowship hall.

Community Christmas Dinner – Volunteers:

Bethel is once again hosting the Community Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day through the Outreach Ministry Leadership Team. This year it will be held in the North Hall at the Lacombe Memorial Centre. We are looking for volunteers for food preparation on Christmas Eve Day from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We will need volunteers all day on Christmas Day for a variety of tasks. Would you be willing to help with the food heating and preparation that day? How about leading the singing of Christmas carols? Could you open with Christmas devotions and prayer? We are also in need of a musician and someone willing to organize some simple crafts for children. Please phone Cora Hoekstra at 403-782-5107 if you would be willing to help.

Community Christmas Dinner – Food:

The Outreach Ministry Leadership team needs desserts and 5 dozen cookies for the Community Christmas Dinner. Please phone Cora Hoekstra at 403-782-5107 if you can help with this request.

The old upright piano in the fellowship hall

Has been replaced with another piano. If anyone would be interested in the old piano, please contact Cindy Prins at 403-782-6400 or 403-748-2824. We would like to give it to a good home!

Bethel Library:

There are many new books in the library. It’s a great time of year to curl up with a good book and a hot cup of tea! For more information about what’s new for books, talk to one of the church librarians, Erin Lewin, Cindy Prins or Cora Stol.

Lost & Found

The lost and found box is over flowing once again. Please take a few minutes after the service to look over the items and discover how many items are yours. Whatever is not claimed in a few weeks will be donated to Building Blocks Thrift Store.

Is on December 11th. The invitation is open to any lady who would like to celebrate Jesus' birth to join us. We begin with a birthday breakfast of waffles at 9:30 a.m. Bring along a wrapped Christmas tree ornament that you have made, or one that no longer gets onto the tree or a thrift store find. Also bring an item that has some Christmas memories that you can share. Come celebrate Jesus birthday with us. Call Barb Vandyk at 403-550-3318 if you have questions.

Join us this afternoon as the Parkland Men’s Choir leads us in Worship & Praise.

This week`s offering is for Missionary support for Mark & Selina Patterson. The Pattersons’ are currently living in an apartment in Chang Chun Jilin province. They teach at the northeast normal university in the people's republic of China. "In the end we always find gods faithfulness to have a place to lay our heads. We also find that we have new opportunity each time we move and to trust for provision and new neighbors to whom we can proclaim truth and hope".

Next week`s offering is for Diaconal Ministries Canada. Diaconal Ministries Canada is a national organization that partners with churches and ministries across Canada to demonstrate God’s love in the community. More specifically it seeks to inspire, equip and encourage deacons, churches and their partners as they join in diaconal work in communities. Deacons in our church are supported directly through the services of a local Diaconal Ministry Developer. Previously our support for DMC was paid through Northern Alberta Diaconal Conference ministry shares. Now churches like ours are encouraged to raise funds for DMC through a collection.

Classis Alberta North has vacancies for two positions it wishes to fill, as follows:

1. Classical Treasurer. Current Treasurer Ellen Vlieg-Paquette is retiring on June 30, 2014, after six years of faithful service. Classis seeks a person with experience in finance to serve as its Treasurer. The Treasurer is responsible for carrying out all financial transactions, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, etc. The Treasurer keeps the books, prepares budgets and financial statements, and reports to the Classis Interim Committee monthly and to Classis twice a year. This is a paid part-time position. Interested persons should contact Rick Struik at rastruik@shaw.ca.

2. Member of the Committee for Contact with the Government. Classis needs to recommend the appointment of a representative to serve as member of this Canadian CRC Committee. The Committee oversees the work of the Christian Reformed Center for Public Dialogue, whose goal is to present a positive voice of faith in Canadian public life, and to live out the links of justice, hope and reconciliation in advocacy and citizenship. The Committee holds two 2-day meetings per year. This is a volunteer position. Please see the CRCNA website for more information. Interested persons should contact Rick Struik at rastruik@shaw.ca.

Central African Republic (CAR):

As rebel groups and soldiers ravage the country, the international community fears for a religious genocide. The Muslim rebels have been pillaging villages, raping women, conscripting children as soldiers, and murdering innocent victims in recent months. Approximately 10 percent of the population has been displaced. While Muslims and Christians have lived at peace together, the attacks threaten to unravel the country's unity. Christians (half of the population) and Muslims are becoming hostile towards one another. "The Christians feel betrayed and are starting to feel vengeance in their hearts.... This is a very big challenge for the church." As members of Christ's body of believers, let us lift up the church in the Central African Republic. Pray that the rebels' terror will cease. May these Christians not resort to violence, but rather serve as instruments of God's grace. Pray for those who are targeting Christ's followers that they will know of His love, forgiveness and blessing

(Romans 12:14,21).
