OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Congratulations to Tilly Biel with the celebration of her birthday this coming Thursday, April 3rd. May you be blessed with a special day, spent with family and we pray for God’s blessings to you in the year to come.

Rena DeRuiter has moved to the Seniors’ Lodge. Her room is D-106. She joins a number of our church members who are living there. We pray for her as she makes the transition to assisted living.

We offer our sincere Christian condolences to Margaret Roolker and the family, Janneke & Grace Roolker, Caroline & Steve Ogi, Ashley & Derek Stingel, with the death of their husband and father Gerhard. He was 73 years old and had been struggling for some years with health and emotional problems. Family and close friends gathered for a memorial service for Gerhard this past Thursday afternoon. We entrust the family to God’s comforting grace in this time of sadness.

We want to keep our summer seminary student Charles Van Hoffen in our prayers. He is finishing his 2nd year of seminary at the end of May and will begin here at Bethel on June 8 (Pentecost). His family is made up of his wife Heather and their two sons Ethan (10) and Seth (7). The Van Hoffens are from Southern Ontario, the Grimsby area, where Charles worked as a Residential Counselor for people with disabilities and an Elementary Christian School teacher. From there God called him into pastoral ministry and he looks forward to being a part of our church community for the summer internship.

Do remember our seniors and shut ins Albert & Tilly Biel, Klaas Boskers, Lea Dykstra, Tony Middag, Grace Spelt, Lena Spelt, Ernie Stebner and Grace Vander Veen in prayer.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

DENOMINATIONAL NEWS

Classis Alberta North gave an expression of reconciliation at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission on Saturday, March 29th at the Shaw Convention Centre in Edmonton. There were CRC members present to be witnesses of this expression of reconciliation and they were asked to rise at the beginning of the statement to help our indigenous family to feel supported in their healing journey which will become our healing as churches and as a nation. Other interesting activities during the day ranged from listening to the testimonies of survivors, to sharing circles, to youth panels, to the churches’ listening circles. This was the last national event of the TRC.

PERSECUTED CHURCH

NIGERIA:

More than 150 people were killed in attacks on predominantly Christian villages. Late at night on March 14th, suspected armed Fulani militants raided three villages in Kaduna state, killing at least 114 people. Many of the victims were burned alive. The casualties included a pastor's wife and her three children. Two days later, militants suspected to be part of the group Boko Haram killed two people in Pela Birni village of Borno state. Two churches and many homes were also set on fire. Pray that God will comfort and heal all those who are injured, traumatized or grieving as a result of this senseless violence. Ask Him to bring an end to these murderous attacks in Nigeria, and pray that those in authority will do more to stand against this injustice. Lift up both the Fulani and Boko Haram militants to our Lord, asking Him to work powerfully in their hearts that they may repent and follow Him.
