OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

The family of Mrs. Lena Spelt recognizes that she is getting weaker and becoming less responsive. She has no pain and is resting comfortably, waiting for her Lord to take her home to be with him in glory.

You are invited to enjoy Birthday cake following the morning worship today to celebrate the upcoming birthday of Hilda Van Stryland.

Congratulations to Bill Wildeboer with the celebration of his birthday today and to Hilda Van Stryland with her birthday on Tuesday. May God bless you both with a wonderful day with family & friends and continue to be with you both in the year to come.

Do remember our seniors and shut ins Albert & Tilly Biel, Klaas Boskers, Lea Dykstra, Tony Middag, Lena Spelt, Ernie Stebner and Grace Vander Veen in prayer.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Next Sunday, May 11th

We want to celebrate the love of God expressed in a mother’s love. The Bible frequently highlights that powerful love as a constant reminder of God’s amazing love for us (Isaiah 49:15). In the afternoon, in a world that minimizes the importance of family, we hear God’s gracious word giving us “Permission to Prioritize Family.” Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

Note from the Worship Ministry Leadership team:

Many CRC churches are moving towards using the recently published red hymnal called “Lift up Your Hearts” (LUYH). The title is based on the many biblical references to worship being a lifting up of our eyes, heads, hands, voices, heart and soul, in worship to God. The WMLT decided to begin referencing the songs on the PowerPoint with the LUYH numbers to give the congregation a sense of how many familiar songs and how many praise songs are in LUYH. It has over 900 in total. At this time we have not budgeted for and do not intend to buy all new hymnals (160) as we have the songs on the PowerPoint. When funds are available we do plan to buy 12 copies. They will be available for people who like using a hymn book to pick up in the foyer.

Preschool Sunday school in the summer:

We are looking for volunteers to teach the summer preschool Sunday school program which will run from June 1st to August 31st. There is a sign-up sheet in the foyer – many hands make light work! We are also looking for Preschool teachers starting in September. If this interests you, please call Jess Heidelberg at 403-782-7992.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL:

We are planning another fun Summer Vacation Bible School. The dates are from Tuesday-Friday, August 5-8. Our theme this year is Good News Farm and we need some folks to help and have some fun. These are the areas were we need people.

1. Sunflower Songs - a music team – playing or singing

2. Udder delight dairy bar - tasty snacks and Friday lunch

3. The Funny Farm - outdoor games for the kids

4. Farm hands – teachers (7):

Station 1 - Hog Heaven - Meet Jesus

Station 2 - Wildflower pasture - Know Jesus

Station 3 - Mootown Motel - Grow with Jesus

Station 4 - Cool Hive - Serve Jesus

Station 5 - Rabbitat for humanity - tell others about Jesus

5. Crafts - Heather Van Hoffen has already volunteered to do the crafts.

6. Decorating the front of the church, the foyer and fellowship hall

7. Honey Bee nursery - Child care (birth-3) and 8. Tater Tots - preschool ages 4-5

So check your summer plans and see if you can give us a hand. We always can use the 13-15 year olds to be helpers for the week. A sign-up sheet is in the foyer. We will have our first official planning meeting May 6th at 7:30 p.m. at Bethel with everyone who is interested. We are really excited that this year our friends from the Wolf Creek Community Church and Pastor Leon will be joining us in together reaching out to the Lacombe community with the love of Jesus through this VBS ministry. If you have questions you can talk to Pastor Mike or other members of the Outreach Ministry Leadership team.

PERSECUTED CHURCH

BAHRAIN:

A 10-year-old girl, during a conversation with her mother and uncle, was asked what she believed. This was her reply: "I believe what my dad believes. I believe in Jesus." The girl's father has been a believer for several years and is open with his family about his faith. The child's mother and uncle immediately began to beat her, leaving her badly bruised. Despite the beating, the girl and her father remain committed to following Christ. Ask God to grant physical and emotional healing to this girl. May her faith grow stronger, despite the pressure she will continue to face. Thank the Lord that her father is a believer, and pray that he will be a source of comfort and strength for his daughter. Pray also for the mother and uncle, that they may come to accept Christ as their Saviour and Lord.
