OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Our family of the week is Ken & Jenny Tenbrinke along with their children Lucas, Torey, Nikolas, Peyton & Kalley. Please keep them in your daily prayers, especially remembering that they mourn the loss of Jenny’s father, Brian.

Congratulations to Albert Biel with the celebration of his birthday on May 17th. We pray that you will be blessed on your special day and feel the nearness of the Savior in the year to come.

Roger Swier and the family are taking part in the “MS walk-run” in Red Deer on May 25th at Great Chief Park. Anyone wishing to donate to this cause can google MS walk-run Red Deer and look for “Team Swier.” We continue to keep Roger and the family in our prayers as they journey with this disease.

Do remember our seniors and shut ins Albert & Tilly Biel, Klaas Boskers, Lea Dykstra, Tony Middag, Lena Spelt, Ernie Stebner and Grace Vander Veen in prayer.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

The next WE event

will take place on Sunday, May 18th at 4:00 p.m. The theme for this event is “GOOD NEWS FOR THE WHOLE WORLD!” In this event, we’ll celebrate the fact that God called Saul to bring the good news to the whole earth. We will end the event with an INTERCONTINENTAL POTLUCK. Please bring an international food – main dish, salad or dessert that can be shared with others.

Pre-Service prayer time

We are starting a time of prayer before the worship service every Sunday morning. It will begin around 10:00 downstairs in room 7. It is for anyone who would like to join in prayer for our church family and the ministry of Bethel church. Pastoral Elder Brad Lewin will be coordinating these times.

Note from the Worship Ministry Leadership team:

Many CRC churches are moving towards using the recently published red hymnal called “Lift up Your Hearts” (LUYH). The title is based on the many biblical references to worship being a lifting up of our eyes, heads, hands, voices, heart and soul, in worship to God. The WMLT decided to begin referencing the songs on the PowerPoint with the LUYH numbers to give the congregation a sense of how many familiar songs and how many praise songs are in LUYH. It has over 900 in total. At this time we have not budgeted for and do not intend to buy all new hymnals (160) as we have the songs on the PowerPoint. When funds are available we do plan to buy 12 copies. They will be available for people who like using a hymn book to pick up at the back of the sanctuary.

Family Photo Board:

The photo board has been put together in the fellowship hall. There are a few families yet for whom we do not have photos. We would love to have everyone included. This will be an especially helpful board for our summer intern to put names and faces together. If your family does not have a photo yet, please get in touch with Anita Geldof and we will make arrangements to have you included. Thanks so much for your help and cooperation in this endeavour.

Needed:

In preparing for the Van Hoffens’ arrival next month a few things are needed. Charles and Heather and their sons will be staying in a basement suite in Brad & Erin Lewin’s home. Some people have already generously come forward to provide a couch, bedding, towels, a coffee pot, and a toaster. However, in order to have the suite ready for them we still need 2 more pillows, and a couple twin sized blankets. Also, they would really like to have some bicycles to ride while here for the summer, but would prefer to not cart theirs with them. So, it would be very appreciated if anyone has some extra bikes around that they are willing to loan out. 2 adult bikes, and 2 mid-range child bikes. If you can help with any of these needs please contact Brad or Erin Lewin.

Preschool Sunday school in the summer:

We are looking for volunteers to teach the summer preschool Sunday school program which will run from June 1st to August 31st. There is a sign-up sheet in the foyer – many hands make light work! We are also looking for Preschool teachers starting in September. If this interests you, please call Jess Heidelberg at 403-782-7992.

Good News Farm VBS:

Tuesday-Friday, August 5-8

We had a great planning meeting this week. The schedule is set and several people have offered to help already. We have most of our teachers, a craft person and a Skit and music person and our Story teller. We need:

Someone to play piano and some youth to help sing.

Some people to prepare and serve snacks and the Friday lunch.

Someone for the outdoor games for the kids.

Some more shepherds – people who simply take an age group of kids and lead them

from one activity to the other.

We will also need the 13-15 year olds to be helpers.

The adjusted sign-up sheet is in the foyer.

We will meet again on June 10th when Charles and Heather Van Hoffen can be with us.

Lacombe CRC Seniors Daytrip to Rosebud:

For those of you booked to go on the daytrip to Rosebud on Wednesday, May 14th, there has been a change in the itinerary. We will no longer be having a soup & bun supper here at Bethel at the end of the trip. The price will be reduced to $75 per person and we should be back at Bethel CRC around 6:30 p.m.

There will be a bridal shower

for brides to be, Heather Noordhof (Adam Eisses) and Kendra Scholing (Bennett Bayes) on Tuesday, May 20th at 7:30 pm at the church. Household and pantry items would be appreciated. All ladies and girls are invited to this time of fellowship and celebration! Please bring a snack to share.

PERSECUTED CHURCH

NIGERIA:

The predominantly Christian enclave of Chibok in Borno State has been thrown into chaos over the abduction of girls from a secondary school. While many of the schoolgirls (who range in age from 16 to 20) belong to different churches in the area, there were also some innocent Muslim students in attendance at the school during the incident. Pray that God, who is surely holding His precious daughters in His hands, will provide a way for them to be returned to their families. May the many family members and friends, who are awaiting news of their children, rest in God's assurance of love and care during this time. Please also pray for the Boko Haram militants who perpetrated this heinous crime, that they too may hear the "Good News" of Jesus and come to faith in Him. Let us also intercede on behalf of the authorities involved, that they will work diligently to safely return these girls to their loved ones.
