2014-05-25 May 25 Bulletin

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Our family of the week is Mrs. Jennie Bajema. Her new address is Room 42 at the Lacombe

Senior Citizens Lodge, 4508 – C&E Trail, Lacombe, T4L 1V9, Phone (403) 786 -2583

Mr. Tony Middag died peacefully this past Wednesday evening with his family by his side. He was 83 years old. We offer our condolences to Ina and Brian Jackson and Gord and Chelsea Bos and the family as they grieve the loss of a dear father and grandfather. May God comfort in his grace in Jesus Christ our Lord. The funeral service will be held tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. here in our church.

Mrs. Els Ebens fell in the Lodge and was admitted to the hospital. Thankful to God, no bones were broken and she is recovering nicely.

Do remember our seniors and shut ins Albert & Tilly Biel, Klaas Boskers, Lea Dykstra, Lena Spelt, Ernie Stebner and Grace Vander Veen in prayer.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Next Sunday, June 1st

We read from Philippians 1:19-30 as we strive to live out Gospel Joy. The Gideons will also make a presentation about their important work. In the afternoon we hear God’s word in a sex-saturated culture, giving us permission to remain modest and pure. Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

Pre-Service prayer time

We are starting a time of prayer before the worship service every Sunday morning. It will begin around 10:00 downstairs in room 5. It is for anyone who would like to join in prayer for our church family and the ministry of Bethel church. Pastoral Elder Brad Lewin will be coordinating these times.

All household items requested by the Lewins for the Van Hoffen family have been collected and we thank you for your generosity.

As a way of welcoming Charles & Heather Van Hoffen to our church family, we invite you to help fill their pantry and fridge/freezer! Food items can be brought to church on Sunday, June 1st. Coolers and boxes will be in the church Fellowship hall to place your food items in. If you have any questions, please contact Marcella Van Stryland (403-784-3545), Ann Wildeboer (403-782-2061), or Erin Lewin (403-789-7995). Thank You! To continue with the welcoming of Charles & Heather, a soup and bun potluck will be held after the morning service on Sunday, June 8th. Please bring a pan of soup or a dozen prepared buns and dessert. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

June Bethel Newsletter:

The month of May is flying along. And with the time, the newsletter team is looking towards the June newsletter. We hope to recognize all those who graduate from grade 9, grade 12 and higher institutions of learning. In order to do that, we need to hear from you. If someone in your family is graduating from grade 12 or higher, please send along a photo and a few sentences about future plans. We do not want to forget anyone, so please help us by getting in touch with Harriet Luymes. She will be putting together the pages that feature our graduates. Of course, June is also Father’s day so if someone has something along those lines, we would love to hear from you. If you like to draw, please consider doing something that we could use as a title page at some point. Please share your gifts with the rest of the congregation. We look forward to putting this issue together and we need your help to do it - Harriet Luymes and Anita Geldof.

Carpet cleaning at the Church

will be happening on the 26th through the 28th. We ask that your visits be kept to a minimum during these days to allow the carpet to dry properly. Thank you!

Good News Farm VBS: Tuesday-Friday, August 5-8

The schedule is set and several people have offered to help already. We have most of our teachers, a craft person and a Skit and music person and our Story teller. We need:

Someone to play piano and some youth to help sing.

Some people to prepare and serve snacks and the Friday lunch.

Someone for the outdoor games for the kids.

Some more shepherds – people who simply take an age group of kids and lead them

from one activity to the other.

We will also need the 13-15 year olds to be helpers.

The adjusted sign-up sheet is in the foyer. We will meet again on June 10th when Charles and Heather Van Hoffen can be with us.

A 27-year-old pregnant woman has been charged with apostasy, a crime punishable by hanging, after refusing to recant her Christian faith. Meriam Yahia Ibrahim was also sentenced to 100 lashes for adultery, as her marriage to a Christian man is not considered valid. Meriam and her husband have a 20-month-old son, Martin, who is currently in her care at the prison. Although given three days to recant her faith, she calmly told the judge she remains a Christian. Her death sentence is to be carried out two years after giving birth to her baby. The baby and Martin's custody would then be granted to the government. Please bring this case to our Lord in prayer. May the charges against Meriam be dropped. Ask God to be especially near to Meriam and Martin during their time in prison. Pray that the authorities will provide medical care for Meriam and her unborn baby. Pray that God will open their eyes of authorities to the truth of His Word.
