2014-06-15 June 15 Bulletin

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

We thank God for the opportunity to have been here at Bethel for the past 8 years! We are grateful for you as a congregation, for having accepted us into the fellowship. We will cherish the memories. Having sold our condo means moving. Our new home will be in Strathmore, closer to our children. Thank you again and may God bless you all. Lawrence & Annette Sackmann

Congratulations to Ray Merkus as he celebrates his birthday on Saturday. Wishing you a wonderful day filled with much love and laughter with family and friends. May God continue to bless you in the coming year.

Congratulations to Adam & Heather Eisses and to Bennett & Kendra Bayes as each of these couples were married. Adam & Heather were wed on the 7th and Bennett & Kendra on the 14th. To each of you we pray that the Lord will continue to bless you in your marriages.

Do remember our seniors and shut ins Albert & Tilly Biel, Klaas Boskers, Lea Dykstra, Ernie Stebner and Grace Vander Veen in prayer.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Dear Bethel Family,

We are deeply thankful for the warm welcome you’ve extended to us. It was such a blessing to arrive at our new home and have it feel cozy right away. The generosity you showed through the groceries and supplies in the fridge, freezer and cupboards as well as the use of your bicycles, extra furniture and linens has been wonderful. Thank you too for the kind words and greetings you’ve already shared during my commissioning service and afterwards at the Soup and Bun Potluck. We are thankful for your willing hands that provided the delicious soup, buns and dessert. Our family loves to fellowship and visit. Please be encouraged to invite us over. J We look forward to getting to know you better.

The Deacons

would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that so faithfully participate in providing a meal for Circle of Friends. A special thank you to the coordinator Hilda, all the cooks and helpers, all those that help set up and clean up and for all of you that donated meat, produce and baking for the meals that are served every Thursday here at church. The deacons encourage everyone to lend a helping hand if you are able. At the moment +80 meals are served, so if you can help out with cooking or assisting, your help will be greatly appreciated; the cooks are responsible for a meal about every other month. There is a real need for helpers to come in at 4:00 p.m. to set up and then stay for the clean-up, so if you have some time to help please let us know. Donations of meat, garden produce and baking/desserts are always a pleasant welcome. If you are able and willing to help out in any one of these areas or have questions please contact Hilda (403-782-6435) or Ann (403-782-2061).

Prayer for Synod

The congregations of the Christian Reformed Church in North America are asked to remember the synodical assembly. Let us pray that the Holy Spirit will equip the delegates to serve in faith and obedience and will lead the Christian Reformed Church into new and challenging areas of ministry. May we together experience the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace as we strive to know and to do the will of the Lord.

During this critical time as the violence continues to increase, hundreds of Iraqi Christians have been forced to flee from their homes. Islamic extremists have taken over cities in the northern part of the country, where the few remaining Christians live. The Islamic extremist group has also been responsible for attacks against Christians in Syria. In 2003, there were a million Christians in Iraq - today there are less than 345,000. And now, hundreds more have been forced to flee due to the violence. The rising influence of radical Islam has accounted for increased attacks, many specifically against Christians. Please pray: For the small handful of Christians who remain - that God will strengthen and protect them. Pray that He will grant them wisdom and opportunities to reflect the light of Christ during this time. For those who have fled their homes, families and material goods. Pray that God would provide for them. That the Islamic extremists would have a true encounter with Jesus, and turn to Him instead.
