PERSECUTED CHURCH

Nigeria

On June 29th, assailants on motorbikes and in pickup trucks stormed Kwada village around 8:30 a.m., as people were gathering for regular Sunday church services. The attackers fired at worshipers and those who tried to escape were chased and gunned down. They killed anything they saw and many people fled to the bush. They also set fire to houses and other properties before leaving the village. The death toll is currently at 50 but it continues to increase as bodies are still being recovered from the bush. Three neighbouring villages were also attacked. Since January, deadly attacks have been carried out on almost a daily basis and have claimed the lives of more than 2,000 people compared to 3,600 who were killed between 2009 and 2013. Pray for believers in Nigeria. Pray that they will continue to trust God; may He comfort them and give them courage to endure. May they be able to be forgiving and be a witness about their faith, despite their circumstances. Pray also for the 500 schoolgirls who were abducted in April who are not yet returned to their families.
