2014-11-30 November 30 Bulletin

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Our family of the week is John & Shirley Bos. We thank God for them and remember them in our daily prayers this week.

Congratulations to Gerald Keitel as he celebrates his birthday this coming Saturday. May you be blessed in a special way on your birthday and in the year ahead.

We would like to thank our church family for all of the support over the last couple of months. The meals, the baking, the visits but most of all the prayers. Surgery could not have gone better and we are so thankful to God for this. Carina's kidney is doing amazing. Ryan's kidney was a very close match to Carina's - her function fluctuates from around 75% to 83% which is great and a huge difference from the 7% before surgery. Carina is still very tired which is a reaction from some of the anti-rejection medication she is on and she will have to be on for the rest of her life. Also her body is not absorbing one of her anti-rejection meds quite like it is supposed to so her one number is still low from where they would like it. We ask for continued prayers for these things. Thank you so much. Andrew, Carina, Jayde and Tessa Tenbrinke .

Fred Martena, a former member of Bethel many years ago passed away on November 23rd. His funeral service will be held on December 1st at 1:00 p.m. at Wilson’s Funeral Home here in Lacombe.

Do remember our seniors and shut-ins: keep Albert & Tilly Biel, Klaas Boskers, Gerry Doornenbal, Lea Dykstra, Ernie Stebner and Grace Vander Veen in your prayers.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

*Local Church: Meadowbrook Community Church and Pastor Dana Struve

*Classis Alberta North: Inglewood CRC Edmonton and Pastor John Ooms

*Denominational: Back to God Ministries International – Brazil.

Each year at this time our Portuguese ministry team produces and distributes special Christmas devotional guides through partner churches and businesses in Brazil. Last year we distributed 900,000 booklets, and this year’s goal is one million. Pray that all who receive the booklets as a gift will come to know God’s grace and salvation through the gift of Jesus Christ.

Bethel News

Next Sunday, December 7th

We continue to “Prepare the Way” on our Advent journey, reading from Luke 1:26-36 and being amazed that “He is among us.” God is working all around us fulfilling his mission. In the evening we take another sermon request regarding angels. There are many angels in the Christmas story as well as in the rest of the Bible. What purpose do angels have? Do we have guardian angels? Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

World Renew Gift Catalogs

were recently placed in your mailboxes. Please take a moment to look through the catalog and consider doing something different this Christmas with your family. Maybe for $22 you would like to buy a baby weighing scale for people in Bangladesh. Infants who are underweight or malnourished early in life can be hampered by weakened physical health, poor brain development, and a shortened life span. Through World Renew's growth monitoring programs, parents in places where few health services are available receive training in nutrition, hygiene and health awareness. Your gift of a baby weighing scale provides parents and local health volunteers with the vital information they need to help babies thrive.

Circle of Friends

continues to be blessed with 50-70 people served each Thursday. Through the food and fellowship many people are encouraged in the love of Jesus. Hilda Nowochin has been our key leader in this ministry for the past few years and has done a wonderful job. At this time she needs to step back due to changes in her and Ron’s work situation. That means we are looking for one or two people to consider taking over the leadership of this ministry. There are also some changes in terms of people able to cook a meal and so we are also seeking people willing to take one evening every two months to cook. If you have questions or can help out please talk to Ann Wildeboer at 403-782-2061 or Martha Warner at 403-782-5780.

The Youth Mission team

is just about complete. We have 10 youth and 3 leaders so far but we need one more male leader to come along on this trip during spring break 2015. If you are interested or need more information, please call Gerry at 403-782-4170.

On November 2nd, Pastor Nguyen Hong Quang was leading his Bible college church in southern Vietnam when nearly 300 perpetrators began throwing stones and other objects at the church. This most recent attack damaged areas of the building that had just been repaired after previous incidences of violence. Some of the church members were also followed home and physically assaulted. Those affiliated with the college have suffered from repeated arrests and other difficulties resulting from the main water and electricity supplies having been cut off. Pastor Nguyen often receives calls from strangers threatening to bomb the school if it's not removed from the area. Ask the Lord to give Pastor Nguyen and the students the ability to unconditionally love their enemies as our Lord has instructed (Matthew 5:44). May these men and women be encouraged over the fact that no one can ever rob them of their love for Jesus and the lasting spiritual investments they are making through the study of God's Word. Also pray that God's protection and supernatural power will enable His people in Vietnam to persevere and overcome the enemy's strategies so that the light of the Gospel will banish the realm of darkness over this Communist nation.
