2014-12-14 December 14 Bulletin

OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Our family of the week is Art & Judy Hazelhoff and their children Nathan & Carter. Please remember them in your daily prayers, thanking God for them and asking his blessing on their family.

We offer our condolences to Arnie and Sherry Tenbrinke and the family with the death of Arnie’s mother last week Friday. The funeral was this Friday in Chilliwack B.C.

We also remember Jan and Jolyn Rodenburg with the death of Jolyn’s grandfather this past Tuesday. May God comfort in his grace in these times of sadness.

Mrs. Lea Dykstra was moved from her home at Northcott Care center to the Ponoka hospital this week. She is very frail and the family has come together in the realization that the end is near. We thank God for the assurance of faith in these difficult times and trust in his loving presence.

Congratulations to Pita Doornenbal with the celebration of her birthday this coming Wednesday and Klaas Boskers with his birthday this coming Thursday. May you both be blessed with a special day and in the year to come.

Thanks for the anniversary flowers, already delivered! We invite everyone to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary with us by joining us for cake in the fellowship hall today after the morning worship service. Walter & Ella Land

Do remember our seniors and shut-ins: keep Albert & Tilly Biel, Klaas Boskers, Gerry Doornenbal, Lea Dykstra, Ernie Stebner and Grace Vander Veen in your prayers.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

PRAYER ITEMS

*Local Church: Calvary Evangelical Free Church – Pastor Dan Berger

*Classis Alberta North: The River Community Church – Pastor Bruce Gritter

*Denominational: Canadian Ministries: Urban Aboriginal Ministries. Christmas is a challenge for all who live with addictions. It is a time when people who have given up their addictions are more likely to fall, and when those actively addicted tend to use even more. Pray that God will guide people away from their addictions, that they will be protected, and that the power of those addictions will be broken.

Bethel News

Next Sunday, December 21st

our fourth Advent reading is from Luke 2:1-20with the emphasis on truly seeing the “Glory of God” this Christmas in the birth of the savior. Our second service will be at 4:00 in the afternoon with our children’s Christmas program. In the joy of the children we receive God’s joy in our hearts. Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

Attention Sunday school & Treasure Seekers!

There will be a quick practice for the Children's Christmas Worship service next Sunday, December 21st right after the morning service in the sanctuary.

The Youth Mission team

is just about complete. We have 10 youth and 3 leaders so far but we need one more male leader (not female leader as stated in last week's bulletin) to come along on this trip during spring break 2015. The group will participate in the Urban Outreach-Mission Adventures program at Y.W.A.M. Victoria. The dates are Friday, March 27th to Saturday, April 4th, 2015. If you are interested or need more information, please call Gerry at 403-782-4170.

A BIG THANK YOU

to all who came to our Sinterklaas Bazaar on December 6th. We had a great day! The Dutch luncheon was delicious and the games and fellowship were lots of fun too. Sinterklaas & Zwarte Piet even stopped by for a visit. We look forward to next year. Our profit was about $2000.00. Thank you again from the Youth Mission team.

CROQUETTES.

We still have some frozen croquettes for sale. They are 10 for $12. If you would like to buy some please contact Gerry Prins at 403-782-4170.

Plan to Protect® Attendance forms:

I would like to thank all leaders and teacher in the various children and youth ministries here at Bethel for keeping track of our attendance records. It helps me greatly with keeping things in order and prepared. I do however have a few items to mention:

· Please date all forms. If not dated, the form is useless.

· Teachers and helpers please sign after your printed name, as to signify you were that day’s leader.

· Parents please remember to sign your child in and out as to signify that you did so.

Over the course of November there were a few forms missing but as time passes this process will happen instinctively. If anyone has any questions about anything to do with the Safe Church Policy please contact Dana van Gyssel.

It is always a joy and a blessing to be involved with this event.

DENOMINATIONAL NEWS

Neighbourhood Life Update for Central Alberta:

Christmas “socking a neighbour” by placing a large anonymous stocking on their door, skating parties with food, and gathering neighbours to pray and dream for their neighbourhood: these are some of the activities that have led to “open doors.” Neighbourhood Life has progressed through all four seasons now with several families more deeply rooted and linked than they were a year ago. To do this with proper motives has been challenging, so we continue to strive to love our neighbours out of the unconditional love of Christ. Continue to pray and engage with your neighbours and Neighbourhood Life. For more on this, subscribe to www.rickabma.com.

PERSECUTED CHURCH

Nigeria

During an attack on his church by Boko Haram members, 3 year old Joel escaped, holding his Children's Bible in his arms. An insurgent grabbed him, snatched his Bible and threw it into a nearby burning fire. Joel ran toward the fire and struggled with a stick to rescue his Bible when he was hit with a weapon and pushed into the fire. The insurgent than stepped on his head, pressing it in the burning flames, while railing curses on the boy, calling him a 'stubborn infidel'. Thankfully Joel's life was spared. Let us cry out to God on behalf of Joel and others like him who have suffered at the hands of Boko Haram, asking the Lord to bring justice in an unjust world. Pray for healing and comfort for that church family and to give them faith and endurance and a desire to love and serve Him despite the attack.
