Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Congratulations to Albert Biel as he celebrates his birthday today. May our Lord continue to richly bless you in your new year!

The Lord's blessings to Jan & Jolyn Rodenburg and family as they move to British Columbia to begin a new career. Opportunity will be given after this morning's service to wish them farewell. Refreshments and cake will be served in the Fellowship Hall.

Do remember those who are unable to worship regularly with us: please keep Albert & Tilly Biel, Klaas Boskers, Gerry Doornenbal, Lea Dykstra, Lillian Mercier, Ernie Stebner and Grace Vander Veen in your prayers.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

Full Council Notes:

· Steeve Sainte was chosen as our new summer student. He will be starting this week.

· We sent a letter of invitation to the Government of Canada to facilitate that Jésus and Evalia from the Fuente de Vida church in Ensenada, Mexico come and visit us.

· We said our farewells to Jan Rodenburg and wished him and his family, the Lords blessings on their future endeavours .

· We also wished Pastor Mike and Barb a safe trip as they are in Israel.

Council Nominations:

Dear Congregation; after this week’s Council meeting, Council asks for your prayers for the Spirits leading in the nomination process. To date some people have accepted the nomination for the positions of Deacon and Youth Elder but we have none for the position of Administrative Elder and only one for the position of Pastoral elder. Council spent some time in prayer about this, and we feel the congregation needs to be aware and be in prayer, for this need in our congregation.

Pastor Mike and Barb

are with a CRC Pastors and spouses Middle East study tour focusing on the biblical events of the Old Testament. Please pray for travel safety and for growth in Bible knowledge and faith in Jesus as Messiah.

While Pastor Mike is away from May 14th to June 5th please call your district Elder if you have any spiritual concerns.

Brothers and sisters of Bethel,

It is with fond memories that we think back to last summer when we were blessed to live and serve among you in Lacombe. You blessed us in many ways and you became special to us. We remain thankful for the time we had in Lacombe. We thought you might appreciate hearing a little about us. We are doing well. We have been surrounded with warm community and have been blessed in our church here, at the boys’ school, and with the other seminary families. Please pray for Heather and Seth as they have had a few health concerns the last few months. We look forward to returning to Ontario healthcare. I have had a good final year, completing the Masters of Divinity program at Calvin Theological Seminary. This past school year has flown by, and I am set to graduate on May 23rd. My name will come before Synod and affirmed, Lord willing, on June 16th in Iowa. It has been quite an exciting journey, and we are excited to learn where God will lead our family to serve Him. For the summer I have accepted the pastor position at Riverside CRC in Wellandport, ON. I have enjoyed reading the Bethel bulletins online, and keeping in touch. Despite the time that has passed since we’ve connected with many of you, you have been in our thoughts and prayers. Please continue to pray for our family as we discern and seek God’s calling, and begin the next chapter of our lives. In Christ, Charles, Heather, Ethan and Seth Van Hoffen

Neighbourhood Life in Central Alberta

has created many windows of opportunities to love your neighbour. One of those windows has been through "block party month". Neighbourhood Life had hosted 15 last year. The stories from these gatherings have significantly helped re-imagine how we can seek out what God is doing in our neighbourhoods and joining Him (read more at www.rickabma.com) During these spring months, we hear radio promoting the "rock your block" competition among neighbourhoods in central Alberta. We also should take note that "block party month" has arrived (The month of May for Red Deer County and the month of June for Lacombe county). This is also the season for garage sales and other gatherings. These are the windows of opportunities in which we can make simple steps in loving our neighbours. Here the effectiveness is not measured by numbers. And success is not determined by size. Here it's about being present among neighbours with the qualities of Christ. One of the many roles Neighbourhood Life plays is to help neighbours connect. A good place to start is to simply celebrate block party month with some neighbours. Neighbourhood Life can help with its travelling trailer BBQ (free), creative ideas or by helping you host.

Two South Sudanese church leaders

are currently facing serious charges that could lead to life imprisonment or even the death penalty. The severe charges are the latest development in a series of repressive official actions targeting Christians in Sudan. Rev. Michael and Rev. Reith were charged with undermining the constitutional system, waging war against the state, disclosure and receipt of official information or documents, arousing feelings of discontent among regular forces, breach of public peace, and offences relating to insulting religious beliefs. Of the five charges, two carry the death penalty or life imprisonment. Rev. Michael has been in detention since December of 2014, while Rev. Reith was detained since January of this year. Please remember these two church leaders in your prayers. Pray that all of the charges will be dropped and that these men will be free to return to their loved ones and their ministry work. Pray also for the many other persecuted Christians in Sudan who are presently suffering for Christ's sake.
