OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Family of the Week: Jake & Agnes Prins, please keep them in your daily prayers.

Do remember those who are unable to worship regularly with us: please keep Albert & Tilly Biel, Klaas Boskers, Gerry Doornenbal, Lea Dykstra, Lillian Mercier, Ernie Stebner and Grace Vander Veen in your prayers.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Next Sunday June 14th

We read from Numbers 13 and “The 12 Princes” who were to receive the land. What do we receive from God? In the evening we read from Ecclesiastes 9 and take comfort in the knowledge that “God is in control.” Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

Office Bearer Transition

We give thanks for the work done by;

Administration Elders: Peter Prins and Herman Scholing

Pastoral Elders: Henry Geldof and John van Gyssel

Youth Elders: Andrew Tenbrinke and Curt Dowling

Deacons: Peter Heidelberg and Rod Duckett.

Those who have let their name stand to fill some of these positions are Marvin Ebens for Pastoral Elder, Wayne Bouwman and Terry Vandenborn for Youth Elder, and Ralph Bos, Bryan Noordhof, Ed Stol and Darran Vreugdenhil for deacon. We will be casting lots for the two deacon positions today.

From the Pastoral Elders:

We are in the process of starting a visiting ministry and have recently met with a group of 8 - 10 members who are willing to make visits to the Seniors and shut-ins on a regular basis. We trust this will help us keep in touch and connected with each other. Please pray for God's blessing as we seek to serve Him together. As Pastoral Elders, we are willing to visit with anyone, whatever your particular need or concern. Just contact one of us and we'll be happy to meet with you.

BETHEL YOUTH

Young Adults:

Baseball season is almost upon us and this has made a few of us think about green grass, warm sunshine and catching a few fly balls out on the baseball diamond. This summer come on out for a fun event called the CRC Grand Slam Slo-Pitch Invitational. Get your church group co-ed slo-pitch team together for this first ever tournament being held on the weekend of July 10th -12th at the Clymont Recreational area (near Devon, Alberta on Highway 60). The cost per team is $220.00. There is camping available on site for those who would like to camp near the diamonds. ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Friendship Club

will kick off their monthly summer gatherings tomorrow evening here in the Bethel fellowship hall at 7 p.m.

VBS needs YOU!

We are looking forward to an amazing year at VBS this August 10th to 14th, but we need YOU to make it happen. Anyone who has finished grade 5 or higher can help. We need a ton of Crew Leaders (no prep, just show up and keep your group of 5 interested and involved), as well as several teachers for the different stations (Bible story, a science experiment station, games, a movie center, snacks, and opening/closing sessions) as well as a photographer. Check out the bulletin board at the bottom of the stairs to see a more detailed listing of what we need. Then contact Erin Lewin, Steeve Sainte, or sign up on our website -- www.groupvbspro.com/vbs/ez/LacombeBethelCRC.

BOOK CLUB:

Ladies, June 11th will be the next book club meeting. This month's book is "Mercy Among the Children" by David Adams Richards. It is Cootje's turn to bring refreshments. For those of you who are wanting to join the book club, but can not make it for June, July's choice is "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" by Kim Edwards. All meetings are held at the home of Margaret Roolker, on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m.

PERSECUTED CHURCH

Egypt

Bishoy Armia Boulous is awaiting trial for a blasphemy charge in connection with his attempt to change the religious status of his ID card to Christian. Because Bishoy was trying to document Christian persecution, he was imprisoned for "spreading false information" intended to "harm the public interest." While his one-year sentence for this charge had expired in December, he still remains in detention. Jailers at Tora Prison have been beating Bishoy several times a week and ruthlessly dragging him across a concrete floor, in an attempt to pressure him to renounce his faith. His lawyer has filed a formal complaint about the mistreatment and ongoing detention to Egypt's attorney general. May the Spirit of God dwell richly in Bishoy, giving him peace and hope throughout this brutal and humiliating ordeal. We pray that the jailers will see the light of Christ in Bishoy and be responsive to God's invitation for salvation. Also intercede for the success of Bishoy's lawyer as he contends in the courts on behalf of this young father's release.
