Please
remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your
personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing
physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.
Congratulations to Megan
& Paul Den Oudsten with their marriage on Friday, July 24th. Wishing you many years of happiness and love
as our Lord continues to bless you together.
It is
with great joy we plan to celebrate Alice Scholing’s 90th birthday
on Wednesday, August 12th. Come celebrate with us on August 12th with an Open house from
2 to 4 p.m. in the Bethel fellowship hall. Your presence is the best gift you could give her! The family of Alice Scholing
Do remember
those who are unable to worship regularly with us: please keep Albert &
Tilly Biel, Klaas Boskers, Gerry Doornenbal, Lea Dykstra, Lillian Mercier, Ernie
Stebner and Grace Vander Veen in your prayers.
Pray for our
missionaries around the world.
Bethel News
Next Sunday, August 9th
We receive God’s grace in worship and the word and in the Lord’s Supper. We hear God’s word from Genesis 22 where Abraham is asked to sacrifice his son, his only son, Isaac. This act of faith points to God sending his son Jesus as our savior. I wonder - how old was Isaac when this happened? In the evening God calls us to be “His New People” in this world filled with all of the old struggles of sin. Pastor Mike will lead our worship.
Parade float for Lacombe Days
Thanks to all those who helped out with the parade float. Special
thanks to Darran Vreugdenhil for providing the truck and trailer and Pat
Bouwman for running the sound. Steeve did a great job leading the singing with
Erin Lewin and Reuben Wildeboer and even added a VBS Rap with Coltin Wildeboer.
Church in the Park:
God provided
perfect weather for our annual combined service last Sunday. Many from all the
churches in Lacombe gathered along with many neighbors and friends. It was truly
a blessed time of giving praise to God and fellowshipping together. Steeve and
his team of singers and musicians did an excellent job of leading in singing
praise to our Lord Jesus. Thanks also to the deacons for taking the collection.
$3209.00 was raised for Youth Unlimited and Volunteer Link.
Thank you!
Please take a look at the note from Andy
& Linda Horlings on the Mission bulletin board in the Fellowship hall.

Calling all kids! Come have fun climbing Everest this summer,
and learning how to conquer challenges with God's mighty power! Don't miss all the fun -- August 10th
to 14th 9 AM to noon. Pre-register at www.lacombevbs.ca to reserve
your spot.
Snack time at VBS!
This year's program doesn't need any baking done, but we do need supplies to
assemble our treats. If you are interested in helping supply some of our
snacks, please sign up on the sheets in the foyer so we know what we can count
on. Thanks!
VBS
also needs some
supplies for decorating. If you have any
climbing, camping or hiking gear that you won’t be needing for a couple of
weeks, we’d love to have it! Pup tents,
sunshade tents, big backpacks, ropes, sleeping bags, etc. Please call Erin Lewin at 403-789-7995 or
bring it to Classroom 12 (Children and Worship room) in the basement before
August 6th.

PERSECUTED
CHURCH
IRAN
Despite promises to maintain the rights of religious
minorities, persecution is still a matter of concern for various faith groups; it seems that the Islamic regime has a particular interest in
persecution of Christians. Iranian authorities continue to raid churches,
threatening and imprisoning their members. More than 500 Christians have been
arrested since 2010. In these past few weeks some Christian prisoners were
granted release prior to their completed term; there are others who have been
arrested. Among those are 18 Christians who were evangelizing, facilitating
home churches, and speaking out against Iran's Islamic Republic. The combined
sentences of their trials totalled almost 24 years in prison. President Rouhani perceives Christianity as a
direct threat to his government. Pray for our Christian brothers and sisters in
Iran. May they be strengthened by God's Spirit, and may they be encouraged by
the hope we have in Christ. Let us also lift up the Iranian government and its
authorities, asking God to move their hearts toward repentance, so that many
will come to know Him and the glory of His mighty presence.
