2015-10-11 October 11 Bulletin

Tomorrow on Monday, October 12th

at 10:30 a.m. we have our special Thanksgiving Day service. We come in thanks to God for his many blessings. Mr. Chris Enns from World Renew Tanzania will join us.

Next Sunday, October 18th

we welcome the Soul Patrol Children’s Choir as they lead us in worship and song. In the evening we read from Deuteronomy 25 and consider the Faith Lesson – “Watching over those who lag behind.” Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

We express our condolences to Terry and Donna Vandenborn with the death of Terry’s mom last Sunday. The funeral was this past Saturday. May God comfort in his grace in this time of sadness.

Steve Ogi still has some infection in his foot and is on medication for it. When it clears up he will have surgery to remove bone. Please continue to remember Steve and Caroline in prayer as they face this challenge.

Congratulations to Doreen Kits as she celebrates her birthday on Tuesday. Wishing you a wonderful day filled with the Lord’s richest blessings.

Our family would like to express our sincerest appreciation for the thoughtfulness presented to us and love we have been given during the time that Teus was in the hospital and during our time of bereavement. Through your prayers and visits, cards and flowers, meals and phone calls, and the donations to the hospice; we have been blessed and are grateful.

Marja and the van der Vlis and Roseboom families.

Do remember those who are unable to worship regularly with us: please keep Jenny Bajema, Albert & Tilly Biel, Klaas Boskers, Gerry Doornenbal, Lea Dykstra, Lillian Mercier, Ernie Stebner and Grace Vander Veen in your prayers.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

Classis Alberta North meets in regular session this week Wednesday and Thursday at Covenant CRC in Edmonton. Our delegates are Pastor Mike and Elder Wayne Bouwman. The agenda includes reports from the many ministries we have as well as the examination of Brian Dunn for commissioned pastor in First CRC Rocky Mountain House.

Denominational: Centre for Public Dialogue - Canadian election.

On October 19th, Canadians will vote for their Members of Parliament. Speaking up for issues and people close to the heart of God is a key part of showing love for our neighbor. Sovereign God, in this election, move constituents to think carefully about what a just, righteous society looks like, and to vote accordingly. We thank you for this sacred opportunity.

Calling all people working in ministry. Unfortunately I had to cancel the first training class due to low numbers. Please consider signing up for the remaining classes in October. Everyone who volunteers in any capacity is required to attend the 2 hour class. At this time I have booked the 22nd at 7 p.m. and the 17th & 31st at 10 a.m. It is a requirement and if you cannot attend any of these free training dates you will be asked to do them online at your cost. A sign up sheet will be on the table in foyer so I have an idea how many to prepare for. I will ask for a minimum of 10 per class to make it worth it for me. Contact me at the church on Wednesdays or Fridays or on my cell in the evenings. Thank you for all you do, and see you in the coming month! Dana van Gyssel

Lacombe Food Bank:

We are collecting food or personal items for the Lacombe Food Bank today and tomorrow. The items can be placed in the boxes and coolers in the foyer. The offerings will be brought to the Food Bank on Monday after the Thanksgiving worship service.

Here are some suggestions for Thanksgiving Day offerings:

World Renew-Syria Conflict:

World Renew has been providing food and other assistance to displaced families in Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan for the past three years. Your gift of $65 would feed a Syrian family for a month. $60 would by a hygiene kit, $29 would pay for 4 blankets. $13 would purchase an emergency light. To have your gift matched by the government of Canada, give to World Renew Syrian Conflict fund code #515144.

World Renew - Honduras Drought:

There are 7 communities in Olancho and 13 communities in the south of Honduras that are in DIRE NEED. Honduras is currently facing one of the severest droughts in 20 years. The rainy season did not start as anticipated for the current planting season and the majority of crops have been completely lost around the country. Some communities completely lost their corn crops; many families are losing their cattle and chickens due to the lack of rain. Currently families are suffering from lack of food, mostly affecting the health of children. Your donation of $42.00 equals 1 month of food rations for 1 family. Distribution of food rations includes: 3 packages of corn flower (4 pounds each), 10 pounds of rice, 10 pounds of beans, 5 pounds of sugar, 4.5 pounds of lard (Manteca), oatmeal (2 packages), flour (1 package). Any donations should be directed to World Renew and include the fund code: 515120 ("Food for a Month"), and designate the cheque in the memo line: Honduras drought.

A special thank you for all who have been handing in their Children/Youth forms and Criminal Record Checks. Your effort to do this is wonderful and I greatly appreciate your diligence to hand them in. There’s a number of them that still need to come in and I look forward to receiving them in the near future. If you like to do your criminal record check online please email the church (bchurch2@telus.net) to get an invitation to do so. If you received an invitation already you have a month to comply and then the invitation expires. For those who have expired I will be sending out notices this coming week. Dana van Gyssel
