Bethel News

Next Sunday, January 24th

We read from Luke 7:33-50 as Jesus shares a meal with “Simon and the Alabaster woman.” We will share the sacred meal of the Lord’s Supper together. In the evening we center our worship around the Letter of Titus as it stresses that we know what we believe. Pastor Mike will lead our worship.

Fellowship Hall Piano

There has been a request from those of our congregation who are hard of hearing that children refrain from playing the fellowship hall piano during our time of fellowship after the morning worship service. Parents, it would be greatly appreciated if you would remind your children that the pianos and drums are off limits after the morning service. Thank you!

Christmas Tree Ornaments

The tree has been taken down and the remaining items are in the basket on the table in the foyer.

Profession of Faith

Pastor Mike will again be offering a pre-confession class for all those who feel called by the Spirit to confess their faith in Jesus as their Lord and savior. (Romans 10:9-10). Contact Pastor Mike and we will set up convenient times to meet.

Pastor Bongo Martin was killed on December 23rd when he and other members of his church resisted local Muslims to take over their land. The 32-year-old church leader was attacked after a fence had been put up on part of the church's land. The opposing locals had complained that the church was not far enough away from their mosque. Just days prior to this, five Christians had died after eating food laced with pesticide following a Bible study meeting in a predominantly Muslim village. The leader and host is in a coma. Four of those who died were his relatives, and the fifth was a pregnant woman. Prior to the poisoning he had been reprimanded by an imam for distributing Bibles in the community. Pray for Pastor Bongo's wife and two children as well as his congregation. May God sustain these believers in their time of shock and grief. May another spiritual leader be appointed soon for ministry and reach out to the community with the Gospel. Also, pray for Hajii, who needs God's intervention and healing touch after the poisoning incident, and for consolation for those affected by the loss of the Bible study group members. May the militants responsible for both of these crimes come to repentance, recognizing their own need of God's mercy and salvation.
