December 11 Bulletin

OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Congratulations to Pita Doornenbal as she celebrates her birthday on Saturday. Wishing you our Lord’s richest blessings in the coming of your new year! J

Do remember those who are unable to worship regularly with us: please keep Jenny Bajema, Tilly Biel, Klaas Boskers, Lea Dykstra, Ernie Stebner and Grace Vander Veen in your prayers.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Note from Pastor Mike

I informed Council one year ago that after 10 years of serving as your pastor here at Bethel, I would be making my name available to other churches to see if God might be calling me to serve elsewhere. Over the past year I have been in contact with several churches across Canada. Then, last Sunday, the Grace CRC in Welland, Ontario voted to call me to be their pastor. They have asked that over the next few weeks I prayerfully consider their call.

At this time I would appreciate your prayers as I consider this call and I would ask you to share with me what the Holy Spirit speaks into your heart as you pray about these things. Whenever a pastor gets a call it is really also a time for the church he is serving to consider the work here and the call of God to remain and help here at Bethel. In all of this, we trust in the Lord’s guidance as we go forward in faith.

The church library

has had several new books added last week! Come find something to enjoy for these frosty winter nights.

CADETS

will be meeting this week on Wednesday, December 15th. Cadets, please invite your grandparents to come on December 14th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. for games and banana split night. Please bring board games to play.

Community Christmas Dinner – Volunteers:

Bethel is once again hosting the Community Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day through the Outreach Ministry Leadership Team. This year it will be held in the Centennial Hall at the Lacombe Memorial Centre. We have enough volunteers for food preparation on Christmas Eve. Thanks!

We still need volunteers all day on Christmas Day for a variety of tasks.

Would you be willing to decorate the tables? We would love a few more young adults to serve. Would you play the piano or another musical instrument? Could you open with Christmas devotions and prayer? Please phone Cora Hoekstra at 403-782-5107 if you would be willing to help with any of these tasks. It is always a joy and a blessing to be involved with this event.

Community Christmas Dinner - Desserts

Are you willing to make a dessert for the Christmas Day Dinner? We still need a few more. Please let Cora know if you can help out in this way.

Save the date!

Summer and VBS are a long way off, but vacation planning isn't. This year we're planning on holding VBS the week of August 14th to18th. So save the week in your summer to be part of another great year of reaching kids!

BETHEL YOUTH

Bethel Tuesday Nite Youth Games Nite will be this Tuesday, December 13th at 7:00 p.m

PERSECUTED CHURCH

Democratic Republic of Congo

Citizens in the town of Beni, located in the eastern part of the country, are shaken as eight people died at the hand of Islamist militant Allied Democratic Force (ADF). Just a few weeks earlier, the ADF attacked Beni, leaving 30 people dead and many wounded. The ADR has killed at least 700 people in various massacres since October 2014. Some believe the ADR has an agenda to uproot the Christian population form the area in order to gain a foothold for expansion into the rest of the East Africa Lakes region. Please continue to pray for this situation. Pray for the bereaved to experience God's comfort. Pray for courage for the church as her leaders continue ministering under the very trying circumstances.
