December 18 Bulletin

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Congratulations to Klaas Boskers as he celebrates his birthday today! Wishing you and your family the Lord’s richest of blessings today and into your new year!

Do remember those who are unable to worship regularly with us: please keep Jenny Bajema, Tilly Biel, Klaas Boskers, Lea Dykstra, Ernie Stebner and Grace Vander Veen in your prayers.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

Bethel News

Note from Pastor Mike:

I informed Council one year ago that after 10 years of serving as pastor here at Bethel, I would be making my name available to other churches to see if God might be calling me to serve elsewhere. At this time the Grace CRC in Welland, Ontario has called me to be their pastor. They have asked that over the next few weeks I prayerfully consider their call.

At this time I would appreciate your prayers as I consider this call and I would ask you to share with me what the Holy Spirit speaks into your heart as you pray about these things. Whenever a pastor gets a call it is really also a time for the church he is serving to consider the work here and the call of God to remain and help here at Bethel. In all of this, we trust in the Lord’s guidance as we go forward in faith.

Here are the highlights of the December 14th Council Executive meeting:

1. We discussed the ramifications of the possibility that Pastor Mike may accept a call to leave Bethel to pursue a congregation in Welland, Ontario. We prayed for him and Barb in this decision.

2. Our newest missionary, Diana Boot, will be coming to Bethel on Sunday, January 15th. We will have a Potluck lunch after the morning worship service so that we can all meet her and learn what God is calling her to do in Uganda.

3. The Council Christmas celebration will be held on January 15th as well.

Community Christmas Dinner – Volunteers:

Bethel is once again hosting the Community Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day through the Outreach Ministry Leadership Team. This year it will be held in the Centennial Hall at the Lacombe Memorial Centre. We have enough volunteers for food preparation on Christmas Eve. Thanks!

We still need volunteers all day on Christmas Day for a variety of tasks.

Would you be willing to decorate the tables? We would love a few more young adults to serve. Would you play the piano or another musical instrument? Could you open with Christmas devotions and prayer? Please phone Cora Hoekstra at 403-782-5107 if you would be willing to help with any of these tasks. It is always a joy and a blessing to be involved with this event.

A bomb attack on December 11th on a Coptic church in Cairo, killed 25 Mass-goers and injured 49 people. Witnesses told journalists that they had seen a woman enter the church, leave a bag and depart shortly before Sunday’s explosion. Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack. Some Copts accuse the state of an ongoing failure to protect Egypt’s Christian minority from Islamic extremists. There is more widespread hostility towards Christians, who are becoming increasingly angry. Please pray for the victims of the attack and their families for comfort and a forgiving spirit. Pray for the government, that they will uphold the religious rights of minorities throughout Egypt. Intercede for the perpetrators who are desperately in need of God's life-changing ministry and salvation.
