April 30 Bulletin

Next Sunday, May 7th

We welcome the “Teen Challenge” ministry as the young men share the power of the living Lord Jesus in their lives. We will also have a regional Youth Service here at Bethel in the evening with the Teen Challenge team leading.

OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Please remember our church family in your daily prayers, at mealtimes and during your personal devotions. Continue to remember those young and old with ongoing physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.

Congratulations to Bill Wildeboer with the celebration of his birthday this coming Thursday and to Hilda Van Stryland with her birthday on Saturday. May God bless you both on your special days and in the coming year.

Today is the last Sunday that Pastor Mike and Barb are with us. We pray that God will bless them with safety on their journey east and be with them as they take up their ministry in Welland. Farewell to you both!

Pastor Mike and Barb’s moving plans:

A member of the Welland church came on Friday with a truck and to take our belongings to Welland. Barb and I will drive to Medicine Hat on Monday, May 1st so that Barb can join a bridal shower for our future daughter-in-law, Amanda Stigter. (She will take the shower gift from Bethel with her). On Tuesday we will cross the border and make our way to Grand Rapids. We will stay there for the weekend with Steven & Rosanne and Paul. On Monday, May 8th we will cross into Ontario and make our way to Welland. We have a few weeks to settle in and then on May 26th I will be installed as the pastor of Grace CRC. My first service there will be Sunday, May 28th – Ascension day.

Our contact information in Welland is: 37 Westdale Drive, Welland, Ontario, L3C 2C3.

Email: pastor6@shaw.ca should still work as part of the Bethel church account.

I am closing my personal Shaw account so mvandyk9@shaw.ca will no longer work.

My new personal email will be mvandyk5@gmail.com.

Do remember those who are unable to worship regularly with us: please keep Jenny Bajema, Klaas Boskers, Lea Dykstra and Ernie Stebner in your prayers.

Pray for our missionaries around the world.

This week’s Church Bible Reading Guide from the Gospel of John:

Week 2: Jesus Begins to Define His Mission

Day 1 - John 3:1-21

Q: For what reason did Jesus come to this world? How can we be a part of that mission?

Day 2 - John 3:22-36

Q: Are we looking at other people or places other than Jesus to provide salvation?

Day 3 - John 4:1-26

Q: Are there people you are afraid to interact with because of race, culture, social status, or

economic status?

Day 4 - John 4:27-42

Q: Are we ready to sow and reap? Do you see the power of testimony and sharing what God

has done for you?

Day 5 - John 4:43-54

Q: Jesus is working in our lives every day. Do we recognize and give credit to God for his work?

May Newsletter

Time for another newsletter. The months surely do fly by as we look to have a new edition. May is the month of Mother’s Day. If you have any contributions you would like to have included, whether it is to do with Mother’s Day or spring, or devotional or a poem or story, we look forward to hearing from you. Please talk to Anita Geldof or Harriet Luymes about getting your contributions included. We would love to hear from the congregation about any ideas or suggestions regarding the newsletter. How are you doing with finding out who lives where? Or the children’s page that encourages our children to look for the item featured and ask a few questions? We are still really hoping to hear from you. Our newsletter will be in your boxes on the first Sunday in May so please be in touch by May 3rd at the latest.

Summer Ministry Coordinator Funding:

Our application to the Canadian Government was approved and we have received over $4000 in funding to hire another summer student. Last year we had Jessica helping us. Plans are in place to advertise our position and we will see if the Lord provides someone to assist again this summer. In relation to this, we have a position open for a Summer Music/Worship Coordinator. The vision is to maintain excellence in ministry and worship during the summer months and engage in outreach through a one week Vacation Bible School. A fuller “position description” is available upon request by calling the church at 403-782-6400 or emailing to bchurch2@shaw.ca

Pastoral Search Committee:

We have had two meetings and we’ve put together our Church Profile and Pastor Job Description. We are discussing ways to invite the congregation’s input. Feel free to contact the committee with questions, comments or suggestions. The committee members are Andrew Tenbrinke, Betty Scholing, Cora Hoekstra, Debby van Iperen, Margaret Roolker, Marvin Ebens, Mel Wildeboer, Jen Zuidhof and Terry Vandenborn.
